Honda's Anna plant produces 10 millionth engine

ANNA, Ohio -- The 10 millionth engine to be produced at Honda Motor Co.'s engine plant in this western Ohio village rolled off the production line Thursday.

The 3.0-liter, V-6 engine was to be transported to Honda's assembly plant in nearby Marysville, Ohio for installation into a Honda Accord.

The plant makes 4- and 6-cylinder engines for the Accord, Civic, Element truck, Odyssey minivan, Pilot SUV and the Acura TL, CL and MDX.

The Anna plant, which employs 2,850 workers, began producing engines in 1985. Company officials said they believe the plant will turn out the next 10 million engines in half the time because of an increased production rate.

The plant accounts for nearly 40 percent of Honda's auto engine production worldwide. Last year, it supplied more than 1 million engines to Honda assembly plants in Ohio, Canada and Mexico.

Anna is about 50 miles north of Dayton.
