View Full Version : Good NJ shop for Coilover Install?

Hey guys... can anyone recommend a good shop? I'd do the install myself, but my garage is being used for storage, and considering how cold it's getting outside, I'd rather save the time and the trouble if I can get it done for a reasonable price. The specific coilovers are Tanabe Sustec Pro S-0C Type II's. I called a few places, and they were all over the place. The cheapest price I got from a somewhat "known" place was $100 at Kodiak Customs in Englishtown, NJ. However, I'd feel more comfortable going to a place that someone has had a positive experience with. Can anyone tell me of any places they'd use or NOT use, preferrably in the central NJ area? Otherwise, I might just wait until the spring to do it myself...

Kodiac Customs is a truck accessories store that installs products they sell. Whenever I drive by the place, all I see are lifted trucks. I wouldn't go there.

Check out a place called Stage 2 Performance on Route 1 North in North Brunswick. I'm satisfied with the work they did on my car. Installing the Tein Basic coilovers was one of them. But since they did more work other than the coilovers, I'm not sure how much it would cost for just the coilovers alone.

Wow... so this forum is where all the local (central) NJ people hang out, eh? Ben - got your PM... I'll PM you back in a little. As for Kodiak --- yeah, I've always known Kodiak as a truck place too, although I did see quite a bit of "tuner" work when they displayed some of their show cars at the Raceway Mall. Knowing their truck "heritage" is one of the biggest reasons I'm hesitant to take my car there. If you go to their website, they actually are official/licensed dealers for some well known aftermarket, sport compact companies such as Eibach, Neuspeed, Koni, Skunk 2, AEM, Injen, etc. However, that doesn't give me peace of mind. I know you like to do your own work too, Ben... are there any shops that you would trust your cars with? My good friend used to manage Tronix in Freehold for about 3 years; since he left, I haven't been back.

TSXDet... thanks for the rec. I'll give them a call and see what kind of quote they can give me. Btw, I used to live in Old Bridge in Woodhaven Terrace... small world.

I like the Front End Shop in Farmingdale (next to Howell). They are professional and do the job right. I've had them do tires and alignments on my past lowered vehicles. I'm sure they could take care of the coilovers for you.

I've heard Stage 2 Performance on Route 1 North in North Brunswick does good work and there is a place in Spotswood that does good work as well. I'll get the name of the place in Spotswood the next time I pass by.

Well... considering that 3 of you recommended Stage 2 in North Brunswick, I figured I'd give them a call and get a quote --- ouch... Including the camber kit, they wanted $300 for the install. The guy that quoted me was pretty cool, but at $300, I think I may just wait until the spring to install them myself. Mike... I tried dropping your name, but I don't think I was talking to the owner.

Ben, I also gave Front End a call and mentioned to the person I was speaking to (sounded like the owner) that you referred me. He knew your name instantly, and seemed appreciative for the referral - just thought you'd like to know that. He wouldn't give me a quote on the install over the phone; instead, he asked me to bring them in so that he could take a look at them first. He was very nice as well... the only problem is that his shop is only open on weekdays from 7-6pm, so I would have to take a day off of work just to get a quote.

There's always something, lol. Anyone else have any suggestions? I'm getting uber-antsy waiting to get these puppies in. If the weather starts to warm up, I may just end up trying to get them in... I just don't want to be holding a torque wrench outdoors when it's colder than a coal digger's nuts outside.

IIRC Front End does have early Sat morning hours. Are the Tanabes plug and play or do they need some pieces off of the OEM units? If you have some gargage space to work in, I'd be willing to help out. I have all the tools except for the air compressor and some of the larger wrenches for the rear camber kit. The air compressor is nice to have if you need to compress the springs to get the top mounts off. You can rent the spring compressors from AutoZone if needed.

$300 isn't too bad considering you're going to spend about 3 to 4 hours to install everything.

The other place I mentioned is in Monroe off Devoe Ave and is called Discount Auto Center. I've heard they do good work. I see modded cars there whenever I pass by.
