Just went to the drag strip to see what my 04 TSX would run in the 1/4. I ran on 2 different sets of wheels and tires. I run the car at full weight with no changes(besides the 15 inch wheels and tire pressures) compared to how its driven daily. Full interior, spare tire, Jack..etc.etc.

#1. 17 inch Kosei K1 TS with Advan a046 235/45/17

#2. 15 inch Kosei K1 with BFG drag radial 225/50/15

Power mods are
Comptech icebox
Comptech header with random tech high flow cat
Apexi WS exhaust
Hondata Reflash
P2R TB Spacer

I have yet to put the car on the dyno to see the output but i will be doing so very shortly. I'll have the car on a Dynojet before the end of the week.

RESULTS
#1. On 17 Inch Wheels, wheel hop was inevitable. It took a good amount of preload and a light right foot to keep the car from wheel hopping violently.

2.2 60 Ft.
14.5@95mph

#2. On 15 Inch Wheels w/ drag radials, wheel hop was still there and if anything was more violent than on the 17's. After getting down with some preload and some practice we were able to get the car to start moving out. Now that i think about it, maybe i should've tried taking the crap out of my trunk to see if i could've broke into the 13's. Ah well, its not a drag car. Its made for pimpin'.

1.996 60ft
14.0@96mph

I think with a Flashpro(tuned), PLM header and test pipe, engine mounts and solid compensator bushings - this car would be capable of solid 13's all day. I've got some plans for the engine to find about 20-30whp naturally aspirated more than it has now to do over the winter and the goal for spring time is 13.50 or better on a drag radial.

Has anyone else here tried drag racing their TSX's? Im curious how potent a Comptech Charger could be? Is there some kind of ladder noting how fast people have gone in their TSX's?

Here's a pic of the engine bay and the slips.

I'm really impressed with your times..I could only get mine to like 15.8 but I don't have the reflash and some other mods

Those are some awesome times! I have been wanting to go to the track just out of curiousity. Now i really want to go knowing that i have more mods and that i will possibly run faster.

Is there a quarter mile time thread?

#5 ·
Yes those are fantastic times, but keep in mind the tires/wheels make much of the distance, if the magazines had put those on their test car instead of the stockers, they'd have gotten a much better time, though they (Car and Driver for example) test things as they would perform on the street, not the track.

Nonetheless, very impressive! Get into the 13s without boost and you're doing something right.

Im assuming you have a m/t?

Thats pretty good... Nice low end 60ft.

Dont worry about trap speed

#11 ·
Yes, 6MT. The reason im looking so much at my trap speed is its relevance of power to weight output that would allow me to see a 13 second pass. Had i been running a 14.0@100+ i'd know theres a 13 in there easily. Im only at 96mph, 13's at this weight is quite a stretch.

very good numbers bro. last time i ran my TSX on the track it was stock with only a Spoon drop in filter and I ran a 15.6. everything on the car was stock except for the H Tech springs i had on. i'll be going back soon to test out the clutch setup with the Nitto NT01's 255/40/17

Thanks, let us know how it goes!

Nice #'s! I'm thinking about an SI 2nd and 3rd as well... the 2nd gear in the TSX literally is like it's falling asleep and waking up again. I hate it!

Nino, all I can tell you is the tranny mods were by far the best thing to happen to this car. After you do it...you'll want to punch an Acura engineer as hard as you can in the dick for not having this gearset/LSD in there from the factory. My car stopped feeling like a sluggish boring turd after the gearset!

#22 ·
LOL, only if it was as easy as a B trans swap. If you havent done a TSX trans yet, be prepared for some fun. Subframe is a hoe, steering rack movement is tricky, and the trans case is magnesium with reverse thread bolts holding the casing together(righty loosey).

You couldnt pay me to do another one of these without a lift. Well you can, but it'd be alot of money.

#25 ·
No, casing is different, you have to take TSX tranny apart and transfer parts ( LSD, counter shaft and main shaft) from inside z3 tranny. Put back together and check diff clearance and you should be good to go. It is easy to do, but PITA to get to and having to crack the case open if that is the only thing you are doing.
Perfect time would be if you have to do your clutch anyway, doing z3 guts at that time is a quick job and you can do main shaft bearing at the same time (just in case) as all of the other Honda trannys used to have these go bad after 120K or so...

Its hard to say since as of lately i've been a bit more aggressive on daily driving it. Its hard not to. Honda should of made the car like this from the factory and it would save it from feeling like a heavy turd.

Highway mileage is identical. K20Z3 and TSX 6th are the same. If my gas mileage changed it probably went down just a hair. Even if it was a huge margin i wouldnt care...its worth it.

Props, thought no one was going to catch that. I have a second set of TSX calipers that i shaved down to fit the wheels. I also use a small spacer(im still on stock studs BTW). It works fine, i've actually been daily driving on the shaved calipers and just did a track day on saturday. So far so good. If the weather permits i might grow a set of nuts and strap on some 23X8X15 slicks this weekend.

It's great to hear someone with a TSX drag racing it and who actually knows what's what at the drag strip.

You are bang on that the trap speed is very important and it is your horsepower (actually power/weight) indicator.
The ET and the 60foot times really indicate how your car is launching.. The trap speed indicates your HP.
This can be clearly seen that your car went from 14.58 to 14.06 without adding any power. Just a tire change.
96MPH is just fine for a 3200lb car plus 200lb driver.

What altitude is your drag strip at? This can have a huge affect on ET and MPH.

As you likely know, a 1.993 is a terrible 60foot time. Improve that and you are in the 13's. Keep practicing, play with the front tire pressure, trying to get the tires to hook up better.
Drag radials on a FWD car may not be the best way and true slicks or DOT slicks may be much better.

Other free mods would be to empty out the car, spare tire, jack, etc.
Pump up the rear tires to 50PSI or more. I run 55PSI in the front tires of my 5.0L Mustang when drag racing it.
Ice the intake manifold between runs. Remove the plastic engine cover.

Looking at your mod list.. Other possible additions to your engine might be: underdrive crank pulley, throttle body coolant bypass, insulating gasket between the intake manifold and cylinder head, short shfter.

Definitely good info. When i went to the track it was purely for shits and grins. Theres a few things i've could've done to touch 13's but quite honestly this was just a baseline reference for next season. Launching was a bit tough seeing as it was about 55 degrees outside and the track wasnt prepped all too great. Either way i wasnt willing to launch out too hard because the violence from the wheel hop. I'll wait until i do engine mounts and compliance bushings before going balls out. My road race-ish alignment wasnt helping my drag launches either.... 2.7 degrees of negative camber.

Before the track opens up in spring i plan on having at least a flashpro and better header along with a tune. From there a mid 13 on a slick and i'll be happy. The ultimate goal would to be able to get this thing to trap at least 105 and possibly get to the high 12's on slicks. It's all in the dial in.

Here's one of my old Civic's from about 4 years ago. It was a k20a with only 237whp @ 2120 pounds on pump gas.

Great times, and your review of the SI gears has got me in the search for an 06+ Si gearset + OEM Lsd. I may try and use car-part.com to source a used trans, but I also found a local shop who works with K series transmissions and would be able to source me a complete gearset/LSD and be willing to buy back my TSX gear set..
The gearset swap sounds very straightforward.. pop out main/counter shafts and swap in 06 Si parts.. and voila!

i was thinking of just swapping the entire transmission if anything instead of swapping gears, wouldn't that just be easier?
