Buick Regal: TSX Fighter
The 2010 Buick Regal, which will compete with the Acura TSX and Volvo S60, has a chassis and structural systems that were developed in Germany, giving it the handling and dynamics of a premium European sport sedan. The 2011 Regal will be offered with two engine choices including a 2.4L inline 4-cylinder engine making 182-hp and a maximum torque of 172 lb-ft. The base 2.4L model engine will be mated to a Hydra-Matic 6T45 6-speed automatic helping it deliver an estimated fuel-economy of 20/30 mpg (city/highway). The range-topping model will be powered by a 2.4L 4-cylinder turbocharged unit rated at 220-hp with a peak torque of 258 lb-ft. Mated to an Aisin AF40 6-speed automatic, it will return an estimated fuel-economy of 18/29 mpg.

I just can't shake the image that Buicks and Oldsmobiles are old men cars that grandfathers drive.

If this car starts normally spanking our cars, then I'll worry about it. It is a move in the right direction for US auto manufacturers, this and the new SHO.... Not MY cup of tea yet... but manual tranny's could really help them out.
I do like the return to normalcy of turbo engines... someday, boost will become the norm, and big displacement will just be a thing of the past.
Not to shock anyone... but everybody gets old. Just remember the way you mock old people today will be some young punk mocking you tomorrow.

I hate saying it, mainly because i also see this as an oldmans car, but buick is making some nice cars now. they all look great. Its like Kia, they both had ok, mediocre cars until now. the Forte Koupe looks amazing even though, as my lil sis pointed out, it looks like a 2door 09 TSX

Buick
From what I have been reading, this is a rebadged Opel vehicle that was supposed to be the next Saturn Aura but w/ that brand dying, Buick inherited it.
I understand where the old-man-boring stance on Buick is coming from but GM (& Ford) have pretty much hit rock bottom & have no choice but to make exciting new vehicles (not sure what Chrysler is doing). I have been impressed w/ the Enclave & LeCrosse but this does kind of leave me underwhelmed. Acura may have something to be worried about if this is priced competitively - they have had the upper-twenty to lower-thirty entry level luxury market cornered but times are changing.
Hopefully stiff competition will cause Acura to pick up their game ... in all areas.

I agree with ethankz750 here... some of the manufacturers that I've always dismissed as rubbish are churning out some stylish looking whips, even if some of them are rebadged European offerings. Whether the function follows form remains to be seen, but I like what I'm seeing from Buick, Ford, and yes... even Kia. Unfortunately, unless they offer MTs on their performance oriented trim lines, I think they're missing the boat on a lot of Japanese/import enthusiasts. Granted, enthusiasts make up a very small percentage of the buyer population... but they're also the part of the population that creates hype around new models. Viral marketing anyone?

i have to say, i think i'm finally used to the stylings for the newer acuras (TSX, TL), and acura seems to have hit the demographic they wanted in their ad campaign w/ the TSX, at least in the new town i just moved into. i see a lot of 20-30 somethings driving the new TSX. i'm sure the fact that its econo/luxury profile mixed with the state of the economy in general and the fact that it's a new car has probably helped. but yeah. as ridiculous as it all was, i see a lot of the newer TSX's on the road now.

I don't see this as competition to the TSX. I think the magazine just picked two other 4 door mid price range sedans out of a hat to compare them to. I just don't think Buick would target the TSX, and if they've announced that they are, then its still silly.

So Buick needs a turbo to get an extra 20 Hp out of that car? We can almost do that with headers! Add a turbo to our cars and I would say you could get much more than 20 lousy Hp.
