Accord underwater - engine problem?

Okay, here's the story... Due to recent rains in Karachi (Pakistan), roads were flooded, and my JDM Accord CL9 was partially submerged in water. It stopped in the middle of the road (in waist deep water), had to be pushed by 3 guys and then pulled (by a locally assembled Civic no less!) home. Had engine noise and took it to the Honda dealership who said there's an engine problem and they need to "open" the whole engine, which they'll do tomorrow as there are loads of other Accords with the same problem, and it may take a month!

Question is, when lots of Corollas, Civics etc. are still running, why is this JDM Accord (and even the US-design made in Thailand) having serious issues? Though my question should be, why aren't other cars having similar issues, when they all have been through that much water?

Second, when they disconnected the battery, the Navi screen went dead, and they are saying the original CD is required to reinstall this? Is this a fact? Everytime the battery is disconnected, the CD is required? If so, how to get the CD (in English, preferably... the old Japanese interface is no help). If not, what is the way to get the Navi screen to work everytime the battery is changed/disconnected/reconnected?

My goodness. Putting 4WDs with an intake snorkel to one side - no ordinary passenger car is designed to drive through waist deep water. At that height you must have had water through the cabin, all over the carpets and seats, etc.

Why other cars were not having problems after the flood is just speculation. Maybe those other cars had engines switched off at the time - whereas it sounds like you actually drove through the river with the engine running.

As above ... Comments from Y would indicate your engine has hydrolocked. Something has seized in your block and more than likely punched through a hole or bend something, conrods in typical. Hard to tell without taking apart the engine. But yes, next time do not drive through any flooded zones. Your car isn't a diesel vehicle.

My acura TSX 06 was submergded in 4 feet deep water. It ruined the engine and the insurance considered it a total loss. The dmg was 22k from the water. Your insurance should pay for it or hopefully pay it off. I owed 28k and they paid 25k retail. THe gap insurance paid the rest.

the dealer told me that acura engines get ruined when water gets in them. I think the new accords are similar.

There isnt a consumer car in the world where you can drive through a river and still expect the car to make it. Only car I heard was the VW SUV you can drive through water till bumper height without hydrolocking. Its not Honda/Acura its just cars are not meant to be driven in water. Next time avoid driving your car in the flood. Dont start the car if you find your car in the flood also.

lol its common knowledge that you dont drive your car into deep water. Once water gets into the engine through your airbox, game over

i had a 98 civic before my TSX and i have a cold air intake.... it was raining really hard and i drove thru a big puddle of water and "little" bit of water got in to the intake... the car shut it self off and wouldnt start and when i did get it to start it was grinding like He** some kind of grinding noise when its at high RPMs i drove it for a couple months till i put a Vtec head on it and the noise was gone.
