AC failure is a known (but rare) problem with the TSX, but it mostly seems to happen with the 2004s.
If you have had your AC compressor go out, post here and include the following:
Year of your TSX
Approximate miles when AC failed (if you remember)
And include any other info you feel relevant
The more data we can gather about this, the better!
174,000 My AC was working fine then i turned the car again and felt the warm air coming out. thought it could be Freon so bought it and apparently the system has way to much pressure that i cant even put the freon on...?? weird, but then i do notice when i press my AC on button i feel the AC taking the power of the AC but dont see the clutch engage..wonder what the hell it could be since summer is almost here.
I have 2004. My compressor exploded at about 90K. Replaced with a rebuilt compressor for about $300 including install. I'm at 142K now no issues, just had to refill the freon(I don't know if I spelt that right) a couple months ago. That was probably the worst summer of my entire life. AC is a MUST in south Florida.
my ac failed before.. replaced it.. worked fine for 40k miles.. now its blowing hot air... dont hear my compressor kicking on... anyone here had the relay replaced and it was fixed?? or its just a freon thing?
I have a 2004 TSX with 112K miles and it just went out.
The best price I can get is around $1,500 to fix it. Considering this and the fact that I will be needing tires soon I may just sell it as I don't relish the thought of reinvesting roughly half the value of the car back into it. At 112K I know the struts will need replaced soon and there's another $1K and so on and so on.
AC started blowing hot. The compressor still kicks on at idle. Hooked up gauges to it and discovered I had no freon in the system. Had it charged up with UV die in the mix. Not sure if there is a leak or not yet. Time will tell.
04 with 118k miles.
First-time visitor. I saw this thread and had to register.
2004 6M w/Navi here, purchased new on April 1, 2004.
Mine went about two years ago at ~64,000 miles and it was... dramatic.
Car had been flawless up to that point. Went out, turned the car on and as soon as the A/C came on I heard a LOUD sound like gravel in a blender. It was very sudden, no warning, A/C was working perfectly the day before. Scared the crap outta me!
Brought it in to the dealer and they ended up keeping it for more than a week, not for the repair but it took that long for them to approve the warranty coverage. They gave me a loaner for the duration. I'd have to go find the bill, but as I recall lines, clutch, coil, condensor, compressor -- the works -- all needed replacement. Thankfully it was covered -- the service manager told me "Remember when you paid extra for that extended warranty? Well today is the day it paid for itself." -- All it cost me was the diagnostic charge and the huge amount of stress.
The thing is, I still have the car and now out of extended warranty. I'm at about 86,000 miles now and I have been debating if it's time for something new...
Reading this thread -- and seeing it has happened more than once to some folks -- has me almost ready to call a dealer today! This is one repair I would not want to make again, particularly out of pocket.
My TSX was blowing warm last week. Went to the dealer for a recharge and drove off with ice cold AC. Three days later the a/c was blowing warm again, so i figured there was a leak. The dealer put some die in the first time around so I wasn't worried.
dealer called me today saying the a/c compressor is bad. Could this be possible? The car was blowing cold briefly....???
I ask if they found where the freon was leaking from and they tell me "the compresor is bad" every time.
Compressor with all the bells and whistles = 1600.
Just got back from the dealership (Center Acura in Sherman Oaks, CA) with a estimate of $5385 since it looks like the entire AC system needs to be replaced due to the infamous black death.
Do you guys think I have any chance at getting any of Acura's good will deals or am I SOL because of my high mileage? Anything I should say to my service department directly?
My ac died twice on me. 1st time I replaced it with a remanufacture Honda compressor for $250 but didn't change out the condenser.. Lasted 2 years this time i got a new cheap compressor and condenser for $210 total let's see how this goes. Paid a local mechanic friend $100 to install and freon pumped.
I had my AC system replaced by Acura at about 90k miles. I was lucky because I reported/complained about problems with the AC making a nasty noise while I was in warranty. They covered most of the costs. The service manager at Acura told me that the Compressors are failing because they can't handle the high rpms. From what he was telling me, Honda/Acura set the rpm, at which the compressor shuts off, too high so it gets damaged easily. He also said that Honda came out with a new AC control unit that is supposed to eliminate the problem. So far so good on the new set up. I'm at 110k now. In the same breath, if I plan to beat on the car, I turn off the AC as an extra precaution.
that may be true but I almost never go over 3500 rpm since I got the car, mined still blew at 90k, im a slow ass driver, mostly 2k-2500 rpm.. oh well, what can you do
2004 TSX with approximately 129,000 miles for the ac compressor to completely fail.
months prior i would rarely hear a loud short whine coming from the area which could also be power steering. days prior to the failure, it failed and turned back on which raised further suspicion.
I agree with this. i looked at the reciever drier and mine contained metal fragments along with a black pag oil which have contaminated the condenser. My reciever drier was about 25% drenched in oil, and the filter caught the fragments, so its probably safe to say that all equipment after the condenser is likely to be clean.
I had the AC compressor crack open around 65,000 miles and had soon replaced the AC system. Exactly 1 year later the AC compressor cracks again at around 85,000 miles. I am questioning whether I even want to keep this car anymore.
Wsup my fellow tsx owners I recently bought a tsx and the ac of course doesn't work and I hear every1 purchasing new compressors frm the dealer which is expensive as hell!!! But listen to this and hit me back and let me know if this makes sense, if the problems always starts with the compressor blowing up y buy the same compressor frm the dealer tht u know is gunna fail???? Hmmmmmm so I've decided to buy an after market compressor and hope for the best!!! For 1 its way cheaper and 2 in my ears the original tsx compressor ain't worth shit!!! What y'all think or am I buggin?????

I own a TSX 2004 and the a/c compressor failed.I know about the
class action suit.I have 56K miles on the car I only qualify for 60%
reimbursement. Is there any way to get 100 % reimbursement?
Has any one had any recourse against Acura directly so they will
pay for the full cost?
