Acura TSX 2006 Check Emission System Light

So about a week ago, my catalytic converter was stolen from my Acura TSX 2006. I was told by many mechanics that I should just buy an aftermarket replacement, instead of paying hundreds for another one, that’s just gonna get stolen again.

Well I got a brand new aftermarket converter with a new O2 sensor. Everything is running well again but now the Emission warning light won’t come off, even after installing the new converter. I was told either my O2 sensor was bad or that I had to drive the car some miles? I was told to buy another O2 sensor and they would charge me to install it. But I’m just confused because my O2 sensor is brand new. Has anyone had any experience with this? Is there a way to reset this warning? It first appeared after I noticed my converter was cut off, I was just hoping replacing it would fix it. I have an inspection coming up too and I don’t know how this is going to get me to pass it. Thanks.

Get a scan tool and reset the codes and emissions monitors. That will probably clear the CEL, but then you have to drive it around for a while to allow the monitors to pass. The scantool will tell you when they pass, if that's successful and no CEL, then you should be good.

You will need all of the monitors to reset and pass in order to pass emissions, that could take a few days and several trips, including one or more cooldown/warmup cycles. Also probably need the fuel tank between 1/4 and 3/4 to pass the evap monitor. If you fill it, try to keep it just under 3/4 tank.

If you google it, you can probably find a vehicle-specific drive cycle profile (specific speeds for specific times, with specific stops and idling) which will complete the monitors in one or two trips.

But your mechanic should know this

If he pulled codes and got an O2 sensor code, then yeah that night need to be replaced. Again, a scantool will tell you that.

I guess Bosch is the "big thing" for German cars, but after my last experience owning a German car, there won't be another in my driveway. 😁 A Bosch spark plug (installed by a previous owner) shattered in the #2 cylinder in our Civic, burning the valves and scoring the cylinder wall. So yeah...I have an axe to grind. The Civic lives on (rebuilt cylinder head, new piston rings)--parts were inexpensive, but it took me some time to get it all done.

We'd driven the car 50k miles over three years before it shattered. I've always had bad luck with anything Bosch and I know on other Honda forums, others have issues with Bosch sensors (especially O2 sensors) so I tend to avoid them. 😁 I once put Bosch Platinum plugs into our '88 Accord, decades ago, and the gas mileage took a major hit. Went right back to NGKs.
