I've seen a lot of navi problems posted, but I haven't seen my exact problem described. My navi seems to work whenever it wants. If it doesn't work, the screen will just stay black.
If it turns on when I start the car, it will stay on and work fine (it won't cut out mid-ride), but otherwise, it will take anywhere from 30-90 minutes to start. Climate control/audio always seem to function regardless of whether the navi works.
I've noticed the suggestions of sending it to Alpine, but if anyone has come across this problem and found an easier fix. Seems like it could be a loose cable or problem with the DVD.
