I'm pretty sure my compressor just seized. I heard a loud pop followed by a hissing noise. Now the car is leaking a thick silvery fluid from the compressor, with metal shards in it. What do I do now? Do I need to flush all my systems? How do I go about fixing this myself, if possible?
I just bought this car a couple weeks ago from someone I know. The compressor was replaced less than a month ago.

The system needs to be evacuated properly and then flushed which requires AC equipment. You can do it with the proper training but it would be very costly. It'll be far cheaper to take it to a professional to service. Where you can save money is by buying the necessary parts but you might need the professional to identify which parts you need. If possible take it to a shop for an estimate with parts listed (don't run the AC when using the car).

The person who had your vehicle beforehand - did they simply replace just the compressor or did they do other components? What you experienced is the dreaded AC grenade situation and what Litespeed08 said is exactly what you need to do. There are now metal shards in the AC system that need to be completely flushed out. Its an unfortunate situation but this is a situation some of us 1G folks have long heard/read/known about.
