07 TSX Tachometer not working

396 Views 4 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  Matthew_A07
Hello! I need some help. I recently bought a 2007 Acura TSX, and the tachometer doesn't work...

Every other gauge in the cluster works, speedometer, gas, engine temp. But the tachometer doesn't respond.

I've done the recalibrate mode and the tachometer needle is responsive with the others, but as soon as I start the car and drive it stays at 0 RPM.

I am pretty stuck here on what to do so any help or ideas would be appreciated! Thank you!

Not common at all on the 1st Gen TSX's.

Is the CEL on? Any DTC's?

I would connect an OBDII scanner to see if the scanner can read engine RPM's from the ECU.
If the OBDII scanner can read RPM from the ECU, that likely means the issue with with the tach in the gauge cluster.

So the TPMS is on for the 04 wheels on the car, and there is a check light on that the previous owner claimed to be because of the O2 sensor.

But when I try to use a scan tool it won't read anything and it says "scan failed" or whatever and I've tried 2 different scanners.
Just like the other recent thread, you shouldn't be driving around with the CEL on, nor assuming what is causing the CEL to be on...

You need to be able to scan the ECU...
Does the scanner power on when it is connected to the OBDII port?
If not, the fuse protecting 12V to the OBDII port might be popped. Use a voltmeter to probe your OBDII port for 12V.

If yes, and you've tried 2 different scanners, then the ECU could be failing.
Remove the ECU from the TSX, open up the case and look for corrosion on the ECU printed circuit board.
Acura had a recall for this many years ago..

Ok I'll check the ECU because the scanner does power on when connected to the ODBII port. And the CEL is on and off occasionally.

Thank you for your help I appreciate it a lot!
