The auto tranny on my 08 TSX with 240K has finally failed. I want to keep the car, I've had it since new. How do I go about deciding who to hire to do the R&R and who do I source the rebuilt tranny from?

Who to hire is up to you. A local shop or a Honda dealership will be equally equipped to do it. In the grand scheme of things, it isn't a big job.

Where to source is from is difficult. You may find a local transmission shop that will rebuild yours for you, or may even have one sitting around. eBay is another bet. Somewhere like hmotorsonline.com sometimes has stock but it isn't guaranteed.

I've purchased 4 remanufactured tranny's for my Duramax and PowerStroke diesel trucks from Jasper in years past. I'll call'em this morning. Thanks for your response. I thought about just dropping my Acura off at the Acura dealer but they don't exactly impress me with their service expertise. The dealer wouldn't change the tranny filter for me many years ago on this same car when they changed the fluid telling me the dealer service wasn't allowed to change the tranny filter. They told me it wasn't necessary. I insisted and they still refused telling me they didn't even stock tranny filters for the TSX and they couldn't guarantee the fluid line wouldn't leak afterwards. Now how stupid is that? So, I ordered 12 tranny filters through Acura parts and have paid my mechanic to change the fluid and filter for me ever since.

Dealers will charge you 2-3 times the amount as a independent mechanic. I had my '07 clutch and exhaust system replaced recently, dealer quoted over $10,000. I ordered the parts myself and had my local mechanic do the work. Total cost was under $2500!

I had my changed at 150k. It was acting weird some what. And I didn’t want to take any chances so I took it to my local shop that has great reviews and they said they felt the delay but it wasn’t that bad but I insisted in putting a new one. Costed me like 5k and they replaced my rear main seal while there

This is the rebuilder that my mechanic works with. I don't have personal experience replacing AT yet (knock on wood), so can't say if it is is a good place or not.
