I have been wanting to do more modifications to my 04 TSX and most of what i would like to do ( throttle body, injectors, camshaft, etc.) require a tune or at least strongly recommended one.

So from the research i have done i found that the 04-05 TSX’s are very difficult to tune with the stock ecu. The Hondata Flash Pro says it can be tuned with a 07-08 ecu. Would i be able to put in a 07 or 08 ecu into my 04 and tune it right from there, or is there other complications?

The ECUs from 2004-05 and 2006-08 on the 1G TSX are not compatible. But there is some kind of adapter harness to use the Hondata FlashPro with the earlier models.
The hondata website says this: “
The 07-08 TSX FlashPro can be used with an 04-06 TSX after it is fitted with an
07-08 TSX ECU and the enclosed CAN programming adapter.” But some other places say i only need the adapter. I just want to do this correctly.

Of course the Hondata website is the authority on FlashPro. I recommend to read it top to bottom.
There is also a ton of K24 engine info on there.

FlashPro for the 2004-06 TSX is expensive.
Not only do you have to purchase the FlashPro programmer plus you need a 2007-08 ECU, plus the harness adapter.
The 2007-08 manual trans ECU is extremely rare and pricey. The 2007-08 auto trans ECU is much less.

Much cheaper for the 2004-06 TSX's, with advantages and disadvantages, is the SergeBo ECU flash.
No need to purchase another ECU or a programmer.

You might be tempted to just get the Hondata Reflash, not worth it IMO.

A search on this forum for SergeBo will bring up much more info.

IIRC, the "SergeBo" ECU flash basically amounts to sending the eponymous "SergeBo" the ECU from your own car (during which time you can't drive it, obviously), who then flashes it with his proprietary tuning and sends it back to you. It's a "one size fits most" type of tuning that improves the response of the OEM settings (VTEC point, maybe reducing rev hang?), and works best with the typical types of bolt-on upgrade: air intake (box or CAI) and a high(er) flow exhaust/cat converter.

Changes involving the camshaft as mentioned in the OP, or to the fuel injectors and the throttle body, seem a little more "hard core" that may require a custom tune to get the full effect of, I don't know enough about this to say.

For 04-05 models, the most cost effective path for more power would be to get the Sergebo relash, intake, headers, and exhaust. That'll give you a nice gain from stock.

Anything beyond that (i.e. fuel injectors, throttle body, cams, VTC, forced induction, etc.) will for sure need a custom tune. If you're still interested in going that route, check out the TSX Facebook groups as you'll periodically see used Flashpros and ECU's for sale. I've seen several posts with full part outs due to cars being totaled. Good opportunity to nab an ECU on the cheap.
