My first post! I just got a 2006 TSX and I wanted to get the switchblade type key that is in the new Acura’s.

Yes I know there are many other threads about the switchblade key but I couldn’t find anything recent.

So to my understanding is that you buy the key and then you have to get it cut, like any other key you would need to make a duplicate of. Then your suppose to program it. And that’s about it? Right?

I asked the dealership they had no idea all they said they could see if they can do it and said they are not sure if the switchblade key I would buy can fit into their machine. Also they said it be about $60 for programming. I was just thinking about calling up locksmiths and getting a price that be cheaper.

But I wanted to know are there any recommendations to what key I should get or from where (website). I was looking at eBay 04~08 ACURA TSX SMART STYLE FLIP TRANSPONDER CHIP KEYLESS ENTRY KEY REMOTE FOB | eBay &fits=Year%3A2006|Make%3AAcura|Model%3ATSX&hash=it em41632c7e54&vxp=mtr

^^ is that any good? Also it shouldn’t be hard to cut and program for a locksmith right? I just don’t want to spend $60 on the key and have them mess it up.

Thanks in advance!

A lot of places either can't or won't cut the key, it doesn't fit perfectly into their machines. I have one of them, got it cut by a locksmith then programmed by Acura dealer. Total price ~ $110, key + $50 program, cut for free by friend at locksmith. Have had it for about 6 months now, no real problems but after I let a friend borrow it the switchblade button sticks. IDK if defect is key or friend lol. My previous key and fob still work too.

as long as they are able to do it then im good with it. dont want to waste the $$ if they cant. so for the eBay switchblade key is it good quality, durable enough?

thanks for the help guys!

but one more question how much should i expect to pay for cutting and programming. the switchblade and the other regular keys.
Cutting the key is cheap but programming is not. I have heard done dealers charge $60 for cut and program and heard $120 at some. Dependent on location and not all lock smiths can program the key, so call around.

I wish I knew of a locksmith in NYC that could take a heeltoe milled switchblade key ($120) and cut (easy part) and program it to my car (hard part).

Anyone in the NYC area got this done? If so from who and how much?

I got my car with a regular key/valet key and a driver 2 keyfob and , so I wouldn't mind a driver 1 now...and the sbk looks nice :)

also does the keys come milled? for the tsx? like the thickness or the length is all pre cut or would the locksmith have to do that?
Comes pre-milled for the TSX. All is perfect for the TSX. Just need to cut and program. I bought one from Marcus at HeelToe after my ebay key broke. If I could do it all over again, I wouldn't have wasted my money on the ebay key.

heeltoe. Had the ebay key and it only lasted about 2 months prior to breaking the key part off. Still can use it as a remote though.
