I have a high pitch whine anytime I'm in 6th gear and applying throttle. I was told by the seller that this was common on these transmissions at this mileage (270k). Is there any sort of mitigation I can do to reduce the noise? The car has been running Honda MTF.

I've used both OEM and redline MTL. The redline may have been a bit quieter.

Also are you sure you have Honda in there? Did you or the dealer replace it? I wouldn't necessarily trust jiffy lube or the PO on that. If in doubt just replace it.

Yeah I am sure the Honda MTF is in there. The PO was very good about maintenance and documentation. I have the receipts etc.
Anyone have any ideas on other options to quiet it down? I'm guessing to fix it I have to replace 6th gear.

"anytime in 6th gear and applying throttle"??

Any speed and only 6th gear?

I would inspect and change the manual trans fluid even if it was changed last week.
Look for debris and shiny metal dust.

270k miles is a ton on the transaxle, CV joints, everything.. It may be time to do a lot of work on car.
Rebuild transaxle, CV joints and axles, clutch, brakes, suspension, etc...

What shape is the engine in? Blowby? Uses oil, timing chain rattle? leaks? etc..
