Advice on door repair

2250 Views 9 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  daviddoroshenko
So I let my mom use my 07 TSX while out of town for work, and this is the result. Reversed car with door open into basketball pole...sigh.

Auto-body shop quoted 1500-2000 depending on if they can replace rear left door with one from junkyard.

Is there anything I should know about paint matching, or recommendations on how to make sure they paint matches? Rear-left door has to be replaced, and driver's door needs to be re-painted more than likely.

Thanks in advance!

I bought a replacement door in mint condition from a local guy for 150 and traded him my dented door. Although, my door wasn't that damaged going to your local junkyard is probably your best bet.
It looks like you might have hinge problems as well as a messed up door.

that sucks... if you replace the door from the junkyard get the hinges as well. You might need to pull the pillar depending on if the impact pulled it and when you get it installed blend the front door and the left quarter and sail panel and it should look ok... Because you also have a Milano Red I would suggest wet sanding and buffing the whole car that way the entire car looks like it was detailed..

Forgive my lack of knowledge on terminology. What does wet sanding entail? Any work is going to be done at a local body shop back east, I'm currently on the opposite coast.

Front door is probably going to need to be painted as well from what I understand.
Hello, im a Fellow MR. Your color from the pics looks faded. Sadly there is nothing you can when you get the pink other than a full car repaint, that is what i had to do. If that is not in your budget, then have the shop blend the paint on the front door and quarter panel. that will be your best bet.
and you pillar should be fine. Just replace the hinges.

wet sanding is a process of using a finer grit sand paper to cut the clear coat enough to remove imperfections and scratches, usually followed by buffing your car. I would suggest letting someone at a paint shop do it because it's very easy to sand too much or burn the clear buffing it.

Yeah, there definitely is some light fading. Mom's paying for the repair, since she did it, and don't want to push anything too expensive she's on a budget, sigh.

In that case you best bet would be wet sanding, (There's plenty of tutorials online) and having the shop blend the paint onto the the other surrounding parts.
