^ That may be true for conventional oil, but synthetic has been repeatedly proven to last 10k miles or more depending on driving conditions. For someone like myself who drives 500 miles a week for work, its more cost effective to use synthetic since I pile on the miles in my TSX.

I was religious about changing my oil in my old h22a accord. every 3-4000 miles with 10w40 conventional. I did drive it spiritedly and was very concerned with the life of the motor.
For older motors, I wouldnt ever consider running synthetic since the motor has been operated on conventional for the vast majority of its life.

An oil change is the cheapest maintenance that will have direct long term effects on engine life. Irregardless of anything, engines wear and oil breaks down. I'd rather change it at 5k and know I'm good to go, than run for extended intervals and risk increased wear on my internals... But that's just me, I'm not a tightwad.... Hondas maintenance recommendations are influenced by too many outside opinions (I worked for Honda, and like any manufacturer, when you push oil changes out to 10k miles, it lowers the estimated services costs and overall ownership costs of a vehicle...when you're selling it brand new. Similarly, manufacturers are switching to 0w20, mainly to meet new EPA standards... Not because it benefits the consumer by extending engine life.)

Everyone makes their own decisions, but every vehicle I've ever worked on with over 200k miles had regular oil changes done at least every 5k miles.
I just traded in a 2002 Ford F-150 SuperCrew 4x4 5.4L Triton V8 gas, 285,761 miles. I did an oil change using Mobile1 & NAPA Platinum filter the day I drove it home, and ONCE a YEAR thereafter... pulled a 36ft Travel Trailer everywhere, beat the shit outta that truck I loved, 4x4'd in mud, mountains, woods and rivers! With 38" BFG's and lifted 12" I only got about 10-12 mpg in the city, but on the highway, averaged 32-34 mpg. Had to replace the Trans around 182,000 miles, but NEVER had any issues with the engine.
