Acura tsx 05 6 speed MT
150,000 miles

Hello everyone! I’m praying that someone can help me out, I can’t figure out where this clunking metal to metal sound is coming from when I SLOWLY turn the wheel to either the left or right. Emphasis on slowly. This sound does not occur when I’m driving at regular highway speeds and some local street speed 12 - 25 MPH anything lower in speed while turning will make the clunking sound. Now to get into the details about 1 month ago I replaced EVERY component of the suspension system in the car. Just to clarify I changed the upper control arm, lower control arm, inner and outer tie rod, axle, lower ball joint, wheel bearing and wheel hub, shock and strut from Acura OEM 🤪🤑, and of course the stabilizer links again basically the whole front suspension everything was torque to spec double checked by me and my partner. On the rear I only changed the sway bar links, wheel bearing, and upper control arm as with the front everything was doubled checked and torqued. When I took the car to get it aligned and balanced the car was NOT making this clunking sound. After the alignment and balancing the car was fine and I was driving it no problems enjoying the 5 days of hard work after changing the suspension system. A few days after the alignment I started to notice the clunking sound. I have exhausted every possible culprit of this issue. I have check the brake system. I have again doubled checked the components I installed. I jacked the car and tried to recreate the clunking sound but funny enough when there is no weight on the front suspension it’s super quiet and smooth. Once I put the car on all fours 😏😂 and the suspension is loaded with the car’s weight turning the wheel slowly makes the clunking sound. I’m suspicious that the CV joint is bad but I get not vibration when going at highway speeds and of course it’s brand new so I doubt it’s bad but you never know 🤷‍♂️. I’m at work atm I will be posting a video link from YT of the sound the car is making in hopes that it can provide more information. Thanks to everyone in advance!

*UPDATE! Not that one cares but just in case you find yourself with a similar situation make sure that the ball joint is ALL THE WAY DOWN 😒 that solved the issue for me.

2nd update
While the ball joint was indeed not all the way down upon resolving this….the issue continues with a clunking sound when turning left or right…at this point im going to go to a mechanic shop and have them take a look because I’m literally out of my mind with this issue

Not sure if you care but I've seen quite a few people swear that they covered all bases and double checked everything after a repair and then proceed to have issues with their front end soon after they start driving their car. Only after they recheck 'everything' do they find that something settled, moved or wasn't really tightened down. And to make things worse they don't load the front end to simulate a car on the road and have a hard time pinpointing the root cause. It's happened to me when I go back a few days after to recheck and find that something settled under load and real road driving.

You may have bad CV joints and you may also have something that needs to be retightened. I would suggest putting your front wheels up on ramps to load the front and then rechecking that everything is still torqued properly. Things change after usage. That's why a lot of mechanics that work on front ends suggest rechecking tightness a few days after suspension work. Things settle and move. Also, checking the suspension with the wheels hanging off the ground, unsupported, doesn't simulate a car on the road. The loads are different on the suspension.

If it's while you are turning and NOTHING ELSE? id vote the CV joint. If they are OEM they are old as they have been out of production for a very long time although "new". You can grease it again if it's salvagable. But the other culpret for that type of noise are those lowere ball joints but randomly and in straight lines ... I think we can all conclude that it's a joint of some sort none the less; find it.
