Hey guys I read about the code and how it could of been related to corrosion in the sensor pins and/or the connector.

I took off my sensor in the bottom of the radiator, there was a bit of corrosion in it, the green stuff you see often in a leaking battery with corroded terminals. I tried to save the sensor by cleaning it with electric cleaner and a toothbrush, one of the pins broke off easily! The harness/connector the the car was perfect, just sprayed some cleaner in it.

I got this (I think) sensor at my local Autozone so I could drive the car while getting to ordering a Honda sensor, since I don't really like aftermarket sensors. Came with o-ring included.

Duralast/Coolant Temperature Sensor (SU6148) | 2006 Acura TSX 4 Cylinders 2.4L MFI VTEC DOHC | AutoZone.com

Got the new sensor in, applied a liberal amount of electrical grease on the sensor pin cavity and harness. Filled up with one gallon of the blue stuff, had to get another one to completely top off the radiator after a few heat cycles. Cleared the code and it never came back on, car does not overheat, fans seem to turn on and off normally. So I just kept that sensor in there.

Had the same issue just a few months ago. Went to Acura dealership and they said they were sold out, so I went across the street and luckily the Honda dealer carried one. The tech guy lied to me and told me one gallon of coolant was enough, but it was more like 1.5 gallon. Luckily when I drained the old coolant, I saved it in a clean container so I was able to top it off with the old coolant. So remember to buy two bottles!

Glad you wrote this, I am sure it will help a lot of people as it took me forever to search on what the issue might be! +rep!

Just logged on to tsxclub.com for the first time in months, and saw a few PM's regarding this post. Some of yous might of moved on, but for documentation purposes;

Hello,

I need help with the p2185 error......

pleaset let me know the correct way. your help will be appreciated.

thx
I'm trying to remember how I changed the sensor:
took off the cover underneath the engine bay,
disconnected the the sensor connector,
took off the sensor (and let the radiator drain through the hole for the sensor),
put in new sensor after coolant stops draining,
clean the connector and put some dielectric grease on the sensor and connector plugs,
plug in/mate connector to sensor
refill radiator.

I tried to clean the male pins on the original sensor, but they were severely corroded and broke into crumbs when I tried to clean them.

So did the code 2185 got erased with the auto zone part? Or you ended up replacing with the oem acura part ???
I'm still using the Autozone sensor, surprisingly I haven't had a reason to swap it out. No problems.

I might plug into the car my OBD II scan tool one of these mornings to compare the reading with the outside temperature.

Hello, i just replaced the ect sensor in my 06 tsx but the cel light is still on. I was wondering if you have to go get the code erased or will it go off within a few cycles. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
Assuming you used the correct parts and that there are no other codes active, i'm guessing the CEL will go off after a few cycles (not entirely sure).
I'm sure Autozone or other parts store can erase codes for you if you need that done.

Hi Guys,

I'M about to do this, this weekend on my 06 TSX Navi 6SP. Got the P2185 code.

Ordered the OEM sensor, got some ramps, electric contact cleaner, etc.

I just bought the car, and it was from NY, and has some rust on the bottom, on the exhaust pipes and other areas on the bottom on the car, I guess this is common in the NE, I live in AZ, no rust here... my question is, do I need to be really careful when removing the sensor?

There may be some rust on it, hard to remove etc, dont want to strip anything and ruin the radiator etc.. from what I've read I need a 17mm deep socket, which seems very tight under there, hard to maneuver etc under the car.

If anyone has any advice / best practices on removing the old sensor without damaging threads etc, would be most appreciated.

My 1st time attempting something like this, I think I can do it, but If i had to I guess I could take it to a shop, but I think this is somthing I can handle, I am pretty handy around the house, but working on cars kinda scares me.

Thanks for the help.
