must of you know the wonderful foglights on these cars are less than long lasting when it comes to the glass on the foglights. well after a year of abuse i am confident that the idea i tried worked with 0 issues.
my first set of lights cracked within a months use. so then replaced the cracked glass with lexan to come and find out that any bulb wether it be halogen or hid would eventually melt the lens.
so i combined the replacement idea of lexan and the original glass lens and hers some pics.
i merely raised the light from the housing that attaches to the bumper with brackets and glued the lexan in front of the glass behind the housing so when installed you cant see anything.
only fitment issue was the metal rad support directly behind the foglight has to be slightly bent to the side for the back side of bulb clearance.

Couldn't quite see what you did on my iPhone, but it sounds like you placed the lexan between the bumper and the glass lens. Great idea for prevention.
However, most people searching this topic are trying to figure out how to replace the cracked lens (repair). I think the answer is still to buy a new fog light (as you said lexan just melts). It's good to know that any of the plastics won't work. I'll be getting a new glass lens and will certainly look into this for protection!
Also be aware that cracked lenses also occur from bulb heat and cold environment (water, snow) etc.

I had to replace my cracked fog light lens. The lens cracked due to shock of freezing wet weather and high temp of the bulb. So i replaced the lens with lexan glass i bought from Lowe's and 3M epoxy to secure the lexan glass to the housing. I ran it for over a year with 35W 5k hids. The lexan hasn't melted yet or isn't pitted from rock chips.
