CT Short Shifter, Hybrid Racing, and CorSport Shifter Bushing... Install & Review...

Soo, let’s start this off by saying this is by FAR the best set of mods I have done for the price. I know we can sit here and argue,” No” Hondata Reflash, “NO NO NO” Pullies, or intake is. But for the price, this combo is simply amazing and should be done from day one!

Okay, enough me of ranting….. Let’s continue to the good stuff!!

So, I will start off with the review as most of you don’t care about the install witch will be located right after this review! The whole reasons to buying these parts were because I made a thread about what to spend $200 if I were to order some new parts.$200 in New Parts Over and over I heard I needed to get this set up, and after the third person said it, my parts were ordered. The install was fairly smooth just a little time consuming and you can’t be scared to rip the inside of your car apart.

After the install I could feel my throws were much shorter, firmer and felt like a slotted shifter box. “aka, Lambo shifter Box” I played with the shifter for close to 20 minutes before I test drove her to make sure nothing was lose, or was going to fall off. The second I started her up, and put her in reverse was when I fell in love. The feel, the sound, the resistance; it all just came together like a……….. Well I really can’t describe how well this came together and how much better this makes the car. It really tightens it up, without being too harsh. The throws have to be close to 40-50% shorter as it takes no effort to move the shifter 2 inches from one gear to the other.

Well, would I recommend this? Let’s just put it this way, you’re an idiot if you don’t go and order this setup tonight. Like I said above, this is the BEST mods for the price ever.

If you have any questions, Concerns, or just want to be a hater please fill fee to chime in!!

Install

I’m not going into a full DIY when it comes to installing these parts, but will go into a simple detail on how it’s done. Let’s start off by removing the center console. You need to stick your finger under the eBrake hole and pull up with some force, but slowly. Once the back peace pops out you can start to pull the rest of it up. This is what it should look like thus far.

Next you will need to remove the rest of the center console. This will be done by taking the rubber mat out of the bottom of the arm rest and remove all 3 screws. There will be 2 more screws right behind the shifter and those will need to be removed as well. Next there will be two screws under the “Not an Ashtray” cubby that need to be taken out. Do not mistake these for the screws that hold the cubby in. So after all those screws are out you should have nothing but some wires, and the shifter box sitting on the center on the car. It should look something like this.

Next, you need to remove the little bracket that is located right behind the shifter box. There will be two cables coming from the shifter box itself. On the right of the shifter box you will need to remove the cotter pin, and take it off the shifter box. Just a few inches up you will need to turn the plastic peace 90 degrees and pull up, the cable will be released from the shifter box. After that, remove the four bolts from the shifter box, and pry the “U” clip off of the second cable located in the middle/front of the shifter box. Fallowing that, you will need to get the “U” pin off located inside the shifter box that connects the shifter cable to the shifter. After you remove that you would be able to lift the box, and all out of the car.

I used a clamp to hold the shifter box down so I can work on the underside. You will need to pry the little plastic ball off the bottom of the shifter poll. Make sure you don’t lose this as you will need it soon. After you take the Plastic ball off you can put the included LocTight on the bottom of the stock shifter stick and put the CT Short Shifter on top of it till it’s sitting all the way down, and put the plastic ball back on top of the CT Short Shifter.

After that, you are all finished with install the CT Short shifter. Reinstall everything as it was taken out and you will be all done. Enjoy!

This next part is for the people who bought the CorSport Shifter Base Bushings.Simple push the metal washer that’s located inside the rubber washer out so the 4 bolt holes are empty. Get your 8 shifter bushings out and get ready to the shifter box install. Set the box down and match it up with the 4 holes. Put one metal washer under each hole, and then put one washer on top of each hole. Put the bolt in and tighten it down. It’s as simple as that!

Yay, the easy part because I am soooo tired of typing!!!!!

Nice writeup! I have similar setup, but different brand. If you're into the Acura Luxury relax driving down the seaside then this is not for you. Other than that, I recommend it to anyone who wants to have a more sportier experience.

i've heard some mixed reviews about the shifter base bushings, with regards to vibration, noise, etc. any comments?

I'm waiting on the bardi SS and i've already done the hybrid racing bushings...wasn't sure about those though

Hey man, great job doing this and I'm glad you weren't disappointed!

Feels so smooth and gated right? The marshmellow feeling is gone! Did you use the loctite (i didnt read the DIY, sorry) lol!

Beats rsx nozzles and stuff! LOL

Question, did you chose your bushings in black or does Hybrid racing now only give them in black? Mine were in gold.

Whats next? ::cough cough:: ss clutch line/new fluid/flywheel stage 1 clutch???:: cough cough::. .....:)

One thing though..........................enjoy the short throw feeling while you can, as someone told me (cYn on here) in a few weeks its going to feel like its normal, LOL.

Same thing about base bushings, did not want the extra vibration on the shifter but I might change my mind in the future.

I also did the MTEC Race springs and I have to say the shifter is stiffer. Paired with the CT SS, it takes a little extra effort to engage the gears (specially reverse) but, it is now precise.

They said to use it, but I decided not to use it. I didn't want it to permanently stick on.

Yesss, thats what I hate about upgrading parts. After a while, its just a stock part again....

and yes, MUCH better then the nozzles and blades.
+1 on that!

I drove for over two hours yesterday and still have yet to experience this vibration people have talked about.

The next best "cheap" mod, to me, is the rear sway bar. I got it about a month after I did the shifter upgrade. But it's tru after a while you just get used to it. =/ Been rocking 'em for 5+ years now!

:tu:

Remember at the meet you & Aaron drove my car, and was sold on the setup!! hahaha
That's all it took! And I was sold!!

Loctite should really be used on the CT shifter extender set screw.

If the set screw comes loose & the CT stub falls off, you are dead on the side of the road with no way to change gears.

Im also waiting for the Bardi Short Shifter , i went with TWM Performance shifter base bushing kit for the TSX that can be found here TWM Performance Acura TSX Bushing Kits i will do Install/Review once the Bardi SS comes in as id rather do it all at once instead of taking the console apart like 20 times , Also have Hybrid Racing Linkage Bushings installed already , i am super hyped to get this project finished just got to wait up for the SS , id also recomend a weighted shift knob like the Fat Boy from GRFXP or the Maven to complete this set up , weighted knob makes this combo a whole lot better in my opinion wether you decide on either combo or combination of any of those parts.

Another method is, with both hands placing fingers below the "Not an Ashtray" there's sorta of a lip right there to grab, and place thumbs at the top of the shifter boot area and pull upward.

I hope that description makes sense LOL

the differnce alone with the CT Short shifter was amazing for me but i definitely need to take the time to install the bushings to get this feel you speak of!
