First off I don't really ever post I am more of a lurker so if I posted this in the wrong place help me out please. Thanks

I did this Navi mod about 6 months ago and never uploaded the pics from the build. When I got my iPhone 5 on Friday I pulled all the pics off my old iPhone and figured I would post them. I had a lot of hours in this project but the final product made it all worth it. I also added iPod/iPhone integration while I had it tore apart which no longer works with the new iPhone

After I took out the cubby drawers and center consol w/ cup holders

Here is a picture of what is behind the cubby drawers to give you an idea of what kind of space. Not quite enough for a double din. You can also see where I put the iPod integration box.

I started with a rectangle piece of lexan and made this mock up insert.
[/IMG]

Here it is inserted into the dash to make sure it fits tight and all the bolt holes line up. If you see the picture above I made tabs on the top that fit in a bracket in the dash and the bottom bolts down.
[/IMG]

I took the bezel from the screen and routed out the lexan. Once I did this the insert became very weak so I had to use a few strips of the lexan to strengthen it up. It is touch screen so it needed to be stable to withstand the poking.

Here is a front view of the bezel mounted in the lexan insert.

Here is it mounted in the car. It is starting to look like something!!

I am by no means a pro at body work but I do have a buddy that is one of the best around and I had him mold it for me. He used an epoxy so it also made it super strong and will not crack.
[/IMG]

So now for the big issue how to get this to all blend in with the rest of the cars interior. My solution was 3M Di-NOC Carbon Fiber.
[/IMG]

Here it is with the screen in it. Right after this picture was taken I broke the screen in half :eek2:. Some how got it covered under warranty.

I also wrapped the entire center consol in the carbon fiber what a pain in the ass so many tight curves. But it really pulled it all together and looks amazing in person. It has been like 6 months now and it has held up great.

Thanks for looking. If you have any questions about the process just ask because I know when I was doing this there was not information on this topic to refer to so I am more than happy to help out.

I'm confused. Is this just a navi system or is a double din? Does your old radio still work?
It is just a navi system. It powers up and down with the car also has a port to add a back up camera and video in for movies and stuff. Did not mess with the radio at all other than to add that USA spec iPod adapter.
That's some nice work
I love it! Clean work. Itd be perfect if you could get the bottom to contour down the stock curves to the shifter trim instead of a flat slope. But tht isn't the easiest with lexan, lol.

otherwise, this is probably the cleanest setup ive seen!
beautiful, i did something similar but if doesnt look half as good as this
din9lebeRrY, the spot that you are talking about drove me absolutely insane and is my only disappointment with the project. I made multiple inserts for there but it was crazy hard because it curves in toward the shifter and then has to have a mounded look to match the center consol so I just gave up. It still looks ok but would have been nice to match up.

I totally understand, its much easier said than done.

In any case, it came out much better than 'ok'. Looks awesome and is proof these cars can get a ddin and still look classy/stock/clean. :)
The navi that I used was just a 7 inch magellan.
so if u need to enter new maps into it u have to take it back out again?...and how do u turn it on and off...isnt there a button on the side or the back of it like an on/off switch?
No I don't ever have to take it out. The screen has a USB cord that is plugged in and ran under the dash so I just plug that into a laptop and update. I also ran the speaker into the dash under the steering wheel so you can hear it good. I have the GPS wired so that when the car turns on it turns on and powers down when the car is turned off. No power buttons needed.
oh wow u must have really stripped that GPS down ...but good job ...is there a way u can show detailed pics of the wiring ? or walk it thru step by step?
Lol wow, I guess I'm not the only one with that idea. I'm waiting on my android tablet to get here, and I'm vacuum molding the housing for it. I'm making mine so I can remove the tablet and take it elsewhere, I'll do that by fitting tiny neodymium magnets to the back of the tablet which snap the tablet into the dash housing.

It's fun making the tsx more functional.
