DIY Cold Air Intake

Hello everyone, today I did my first mod on my tsx. I removed the stock air box and resonator and all the plastic junk that runs under the headlight in the front bumper. I was inspecting the pipes and tubes that came off of the car and rearranged them in such a way that routed air from the same place aftermarket CAI pull air from. i used the spring that normally secures the intake to the airbox to secure the next tube. i then went to autozone, got a filter and a couple of odd pipes and connectors to make it all fit.

the engine under full load sounds night and day different, much deeper, much better. i am quite blown away how much different / deeper it sounds under acceleration. driving casually it sounds identical to stock. no check engine lights. so far i am incredibly happy with it. also did a throttle body bypass today as well. hopefully getting a reflash done this month, so hopeful for the future.

here are some pics of my frankenstein monster:

That's great to hear, I didn't go that far in terms of a DIY intake, I actually just hooked up a few couplers to the OEM intake tubing and added a good cone filter at the end. Even with the resonators and everything in the bumper stock it sounds unbelievable. I had the reflash done yesterday and GOD does it pull like a freight train. My 04 is 164k miles and feels amazing, you definitely won't be disappointed with the reflash as well, that I can guarantee. Where are you getting your reflash done?

My next plans are to probably add a progress rear sway bar with moog endlinks, some new rotors and pads for the front, and to drop in an 06+ cam for better lift and duration.

Unfortunately i have to drive about 2 hours north into ohio to get to the nearest shop that offers the reflash. SlowMotion Motorsports i think? i’ve had this car since 110k miles i’m at 220k now. when i first got the car i was under the impression the 05 couldn’t be reflashed so i gave up on it, but i saw now hondata offers it and i’m super excited to get it done.

i am keeping my eyes peeled around local junkyards for a tl type s to take its rear sway bar. i also have a thermal intake manifold gasket, em2 master cylinder without the delay valve, braided stainless clutch lines, and shifter bushings / springs otw in the mail as well. all should be installed this week

Wait wth, you can get a reflash without being on site. Just do it through serge bo or reflash club. I got it done by reflash club and the change is IMMENSE. The E tune is way more convenient, they send you a tactrix cable, connect to ur laptop through a software called “anydesk”, and reflash your car flat in 20 mins. Way better and convenient imho

I’ve been trying hard to find 06-08 intake cams at junkyards but I dont have enough friends on this forum to search at their local yards and send any for me lol, theres NOTHING around here :/

thank you for the tip, i’ve never heard of either of those. that does sound much more convenient than an on site reflash. what is reflash club/sergbo is it it’s own website or like a thread on here? a google search didn’t seem to pull much up

pm me, I’ll explain everything there! I have an 04, so I can tell you what could be best since our cars are in the same predicament.

No reflash is necessary thats a separate thing, though it is 100% worth it to reflash supporting mods. You dont need to reflash after a CAI or SRI, but it is really awesome if you do.

reflash is a separate thing. i do notice a difference with just the intake though. the sound when driving around normally is more or less the same as stock, but when i step on the gas and put the engine under load it sounds like a different car. i have noticed a bit more power even on the stock tune too, the rpm climb a little easier / faster and the car feels smoother. i didn’t expect it to make such an impact on the car but the car feels and sounds night and day better than stock. not a ton faster, very slight but noticeable. the reflash will help with that hopefully
