What Is It?
2004 Acura TSX

What's Special About It?
The TSX fills the gap between the RSX coupe and larger TL sedan. Armed with Acura's 2.4-liter engine with i-VTEC and making 200 horsepower, the TSX is clearly aimed at taking on such entry-luxury cars such as the Lexus IS 300, Audi A4 and BMW 3 Series. Granted, the TSX offers a six-speed manual transmission, independent suspension and Vehicle Stability Assist, but without a six under the hood we can't help but wonder just how much of that performance-oriented market Acura can capture. Then again, four-wheel discs, 17-inch wheels shod with V-rated tires, plus double-wishbone suspension should give the TSX some true sport to back up the marketing hype.

Acura calls the TSX a "gateway" vehicle — that's just a fancy way of saying "we want this to be your first luxury car." This car is intended for the late-20- to early-30-somethings who might otherwise not be considering a luxury car. Like its competitors, the TSX is a combination of sport and luxury. Standard features include dual-zone climate control, leather seating, 360-watt premium sound system, side curtain airbags and HID headlights. Also like the competition, the TSX will be priced between $25,000 and $30,000.

Why Should You Care?
If you can't afford a BMW, are tired of seeing IS 300s on every block and want more luxury than Honda offers, add the TSX to your shopping list. Acura is hoping the TSX will be the first of many Acura products to grace your garage. — Brian Moody
