Garage door opener won't program

I have a high end genie belt drive garage door opener that has rolling codes. to program you have to go through the normal point-the-remote-at-the-visor setup routine and then push the "LEARN" button on the motor drive unit and go to the car and push the button there again. Can't get it to work.

It worked great on my 1999 mercury and my 2004 infinity whcih should have been older and lower tech cars. but they were made about the same time as the garage door opener which I bought in 1999.

Any suggestions?

thanks,
Jerry

I'm having the same problem. I am going to try hitting the button on the garage door mechanism to see if that will work when I get time. You should have that as well.
I had the same problem. Oddly, the only way I could get it to work was by following the instructions EXACTLY as written, including the part about holding the remote next to the Homelink console. That part seemed irrelevant to the rolling code type of opener I have, but for whatever reason it wouldn't work without it.

That worked for me when my parents garage door wasn't syncing. It was very frustrating until I figured that out. My sisters didn't need it though so it all depends.

If you're experiencing difficulties programming your high-end Genie belt drive garage door opener with your newer vehicles, here are a few suggestions to troubleshoot the issue:
  1. Verify compatibility: Ensure that your garage door opener model is compatible with the specific make and model of your newer vehicles. Check the Genie website or contact their customer support to confirm compatibility.
  2. Clear previous codes: Before attempting to program the opener with your newer vehicles, make sure to clear any existing codes or remotes from the opener's memory. Refer to the product manual or Genie's instructions for the correct procedure.
  3. Follow the programming steps precisely: Carefully follow the programming instructions provided by Genie, as they may vary depending on the model and features of your garage door opener. Double-check that you are pressing the appropriate buttons and following the correct sequence.
  4. Check battery and signal range: Ensure that the batteries in your vehicle's remote are not depleted and have a strong signal. Weak batteries or limited range can interfere with the programming process.
  5. Seek professional assistance: If you have followed the instructions correctly and are still encountering issues, consider contacting Genie's customer support or a professional garage door technician who specializes in Genie products. They can provide additional guidance or perform the programming for you.
Remember to provide specific details about your garage door opener model, the make and model of your vehicles, and any error messages encountered when seeking assistance. This information will help the experts provide more accurate advice and solutions.
