A/C Failed

I have a 2004 TSX with 112K miles and it just went out.

The best price I can get is around $1,500 to fix it. Considering this and the fact that I will be needing tires soon I may just sell it as I don't relish the thought of reinvesting roughly half the value of the car back into it. At 112K I know the struts will need replaced soon and there's another $1K and so on and so on.

Anyone in DFW want a TSX for about $5,500?

AC started blowing hot. The compressor still kicks on at idle. Hooked up gauges to it and discovered I had no freon in the system. Had it charged up with UV die in the mix. Not sure if there is a leak or not yet. Time will tell.

First-time visitor. I saw this thread and had to register.

2004 6M w/Navi here, purchased new on April 1, 2004.

Mine went about two years ago at ~64,000 miles and it was... dramatic.

Car had been flawless up to that point. Went out, turned the car on and as soon as the A/C came on I heard a LOUD sound like gravel in a blender. It was very sudden, no warning, A/C was working perfectly the day before. Scared the crap outta me!

Brought it in to the dealer and they ended up keeping it for more than a week, not for the repair but it took that long for them to approve the warranty coverage. They gave me a loaner for the duration. I'd have to go find the bill, but as I recall lines, clutch, coil, condensor, compressor -- the works -- all needed replacement. Thankfully it was covered -- the service manager told me "Remember when you paid extra for that extended warranty? Well today is the day it paid for itself." -- All it cost me was the diagnostic charge and the huge amount of stress.

The thing is, I still have the car and now out of extended warranty. I'm at about 86,000 miles now and I have been debating if it's time for something new...

Reading this thread -- and seeing it has happened more than once to some folks -- has me almost ready to call a dealer today! This is one repair I would not want to make again, particularly out of pocket.

quesstion for you guys

My TSX was blowing warm last week. Went to the dealer for a recharge and drove off with ice cold AC. Three days later the a/c was blowing warm again, so i figured there was a leak. The dealer put some die in the first time around so I wasn't worried.

dealer called me today saying the a/c compressor is bad. Could this be possible? The car was blowing cold briefly....???

I ask if they found where the freon was leaking from and they tell me "the compresor is bad" every time.

Compressor with all the bells and whistles = 1600.

Does this make sense?

I have a 2004 and it went out around 78k. Good thing I had a friend who was a mechanic so he did all the work for cheap and we got the kit for the ac from this website. So far it looks like its working well.

2004*Acura*TSX*A/C Compressor from DiscountAcParts
04' Acura TSX - A/C stopped blowing cool air back around 120k miles. Its summer its hoT windows are cutting it no more. I don't know what went wrong but had a hometown garage tell me I should just replace the condenser and compressor.

Thanks for posting this website. This has helped me tremendously on my hunt for new acura parts!!!

2007 6 Speed. 118K Miles

Just got back from the dealership (Center Acura in Sherman Oaks, CA) with a estimate of $5385 since it looks like the entire AC system needs to be replaced due to the infamous black death.

Do you guys think I have any chance at getting any of Acura's good will deals or am I SOL because of my high mileage? Anything I should say to my service department directly?

My ac died twice on me. 1st time I replaced it with a remanufacture Honda compressor for $250 but didn't change out the condenser.. Lasted 2 years this time i got a new cheap compressor and condenser for $210 total let's see how this goes. Paid a local mechanic friend $100 to install and freon pumped.

I had my AC system replaced by Acura at about 90k miles. I was lucky because I reported/complained about problems with the AC making a nasty noise while I was in warranty. They covered most of the costs. The service manager at Acura told me that the Compressors are failing because they can't handle the high rpms. From what he was telling me, Honda/Acura set the rpm, at which the compressor shuts off, too high so it gets damaged easily. He also said that Honda came out with a new AC control unit that is supposed to eliminate the problem. So far so good on the new set up. I'm at 110k now. In the same breath, if I plan to beat on the car, I turn off the AC as an extra precaution.

thanks for the links. its pretty ridiculous OEM acura parts do not last. Even more ridiculous that Honda hasn't done anything about it.

Will look into these!

2004 TSX with approximately 129,000 miles for the ac compressor to completely fail.
months prior i would rarely hear a loud short whine coming from the area which could also be power steering. days prior to the failure, it failed and turned back on which raised further suspicion.
