I was offered a new system from a shop in VA for something like $1150> I asked about getting a longer warranty and they made a few calls, changed part manufacturers, changed the price by $100 and gave me a lifetime warranty. Worth asking around so you get better parts.

04 TSX 6spd, no navi here. Bought last 7/23/13 @75k. Looks like I may be in the camp diagnosed with the black death. A/c was slowly blowing warmer, so I had it recharged june 26th. After being recharged it smelled mildewy but blew ultra cold air. I dropped car off for body work and didnt get it back for a month. When I finally got the car back and used it for about a week mildew remained so I sprayed lysol through the system which really helped. But tonight started blowing warm air. When I got home I checked under the hood. the cooling fans engage, but the compressor does not. FACK!!!! Died at 99,939 mi.
Is there any warranty for this since its so common or should parts just be replaced with aftermarket because the OEM ones seem to be crap.
How did you get the dealer to pay 4,000 for a/c repair elhalisf?
The acura dealer that i bought the car from managed to convince acura corporate to provide the parts based on good will, and then that same dealer covered the $1200 labor. My first failure was a compressor clutch relay (my diagnosis) but the idiots at the dealership diagnosed it as black death. the compressor was not making any noise in my case, and the pulley would spin freely. The new oem compressor was the one that really blew up.

If i was in your position, I would buy a new aftermarket compressor and not replace any component of the compressor with oem parts. dont take the risk of keeping that oem compressor and then it really blows up in the future and contaminates the whole AC system.
I had my buddy hook me up with a 4 seasons compressor from napa for $200. It has a 2-year warranty.

Thanks for the advice elhalisf! I will do that soon! I heard that four seasons is much better than the OEM which is strange for a Honda.

2004 @ 134,000 miles currently. Tried A/C once or twice but rarely ever turned it on (roll with the windows down) and once my wife tried it, nothing but hot air. Haven't looked into getting it fixed but worth a shot. Hasn't been working for years.

Crap.

2006 A/T with 91k, and I was just told that a complete system replacement is in order. My wife was driving last Tuesday, heard a loud grinding followed by a "sizzling," (all of which lasted about 3 seconds as she described) then the A/C immediately blew hot, moist air.

Now I'm getting quoted around $1700 for a complete replacement from an independent shop (very, very reputable one at that). Nearest Acura dealership is 45 minutes away, so I'm not even considering waisting time going all the way up there.

Here's to finishing out the summer as a hot one, saving some money over the winter, then trying to get it all back up and running some time before next summer.

This sucks. This is my 3rd compressor in a Honda/Acura to grenade (97 Civic, 2003 Element, and now the TSX). Everything else about the brand is fantastic, but the HVAC systems are just too unreliable.

If she heard the sizzling, that means the compressor housing cracked and the oil will be leaking out. if you continue to drive it, the compressor bearing might seize and snap the belt.

I've put it up on ramps and checked from every angle, and I cannot see any oil anywhere around the compressor or on the pulleys/belt. When you switch on the a/c, the clutch never disengages and it continues to spin freely. The mechanic said that the compressor is completely locked up, so I don't really know what to do from here.

My schedule is ridiculous (full-time student with 16 hour semesters, and I work around 45 hours a week as well). My wife refuses to drive our daughter around in a car without a/c in the hot Oklahoma weather, so I'm relegated to taking the brunt of the heat while she drives in the cush, cold 4Runner....

2005 TSX with 104k miles, all ours. Purchased in June 2005.

Looks like we have suffered the black death. Last week I noticed while idling the air was not cool, but while moving it was fine. Yesterday there was a loud rattling sound when the A/C was on. After reading these posts, we took it in today, but did not turn on the A/C hoping we wouldn't need to replace everything.....
Found out this morning, compressor died and metal was found in other parts, so complete fix $1,800.

Our 2004 A/T with 78k just lost cold air one day. So my wife who mainly drives it, has not had A/C for about a month now & it's been scorching hot! I've never taken a car to a shop but I know nothing about A/C so we might have to but I'm worried about how much will they charge me?
I added some freon & instantly heard a loud hissing sound coming from a rubber a/c hose on top of the compresser... Anyone know if I can just replace that & add more freon or wtf?

From Miami. 2006 MT 120k miles a/c stop blowing cold. Compressor is not kicking on. From what I read it seems like I'm going to need to change everything or else its just gonna bust again. I called my insurance and they said they would cover it since I told them it happened while I was driving. Accident Forgiveness will come into play so my insurance wont go up. I'd rather pay my $500 deductible than over $1k in repairs. Debating on selling the car because this is definitely something that I don't want to be dealing with again.
