Hondata is a programable standalone ECU, That means its not a chip but a replacement ECU that you can tune and infinatly adjust. The basic model costs you about 200 bucks. MOre if you want the bells and whistles.

The Acura RSX-S guys are seeing great gains with intake/header/exhaust and a Hondata. In fact they are managing way over 200WHP and mid 13 second 1/4 mile times, which is amost unheard of in naturally aspirated 4 cyl engines in cars with full interiors. At least with sop few modifications anyway.

It depends on which Hondata you are referring. The $200 system (S200) is not a replacement ECU, but an interface unit that connects to a chipped "OBD1" ECU for older Honda cars. You can also buy the S100 sysem which is a module onboard of a modified OBD1 ECU.

The RSX has the reflash option for about $600 to reprogram the existing ECU but it's not user programmable. The user programmable ECU costs about $1000, which is a modified version of the stock ECU.
