well i finally found a sweet 05 TSX in my area that im looking to purchase. Here are some pics For Sale - 2005 Acura TSX | Facebook

I went and test drove it today, everything was fine and the car seemed to be in near perfect shape ( aside from a couple minor scrapes on the bumper). This car literally looked like it was right off the showroom floor. Car only had 1 owner, of which was a very nice quiet women - who i dare to make the assumption that she treated it well and didnt beat the heck out of it... They have records of all the work done/changed the oil regularly. Not sure if it means anything but they just had the actuator changed on the two front doors because they went out. From what i saw there was also a recall that was repaired on some sort of fuel hose? i cant remember 100% but am concerned it may be a foreshadowing of things to come.god i hope not bc i really like this car. regardless, im taking it to a mechanic to get it checked out on thursday.

anyway, car has 58xxx miles on it and is being offered for $13,999. KBB lists for about 700 dollars more than what they are asking but im aware kbb isnt always an accurate portrayal of what the car is actually worth, esp given todays economy. just curious as to what all of you TSX experts think a fair price for this vehicle is, assuming it gets the thumbs up from my mechanic. Thanks a bunch in advance, and wish me luck!

The actuator is a common issue for our cars. I believe mine was replaced when I casually mentioned how slow the doors seemed to unlock.

The recall was for the power steering hose. I think the issue was that it could start leaking fluid on the engine and possibly start a fire. The recall is free, so if it hasn't been done, you don't need to worry about it.

I haven't been looking at what TSXs have been going for recently, so I can't really provide much input. Looking at KBB, the price seems fair.

The pictures look fine, other than the marks on the grille and the rear bumper. Did they take away the cloth floor mats that came with the car? I see that they installed a rear hitch, which might be useful for you (bike rack). The front license plate frame bracket is gone, so hopefully it's in the trunk (unless you don't plan on using a front plate). Tint looks good from what I can see.

fwiw, he just got 4 new tires. however the breaks, timing/serpentine belt are all unchanged. at how many miles do i need to replace these things as they could prob be used to my advantage if it comes down to haggling.

also, are there any other major maintenance requirements i need to do around the 60k ?

What are your guys thoughts on Edmunds TMV. It has ths year acura listed for about 2k less than blue book, what gives?

Welcome to TSXClub...

Just my opinion.. while that is a good looking TSX, if you are any kind of enthusiast you will regret the auto trans.
There is a reason "a nice quiet woman" owns an auto TSX. The automatic transmission really holds the TSX back.
A small 4 cylinder engine in a heavier car needs as many gears as possible.

Just my thoughts... good luck..

tbh im not a huge car enthusiast , i hate to admit it but my ability to drive a stick is crappy at best. i just love teh way this car drove, how it looked, and its over quality/reliability. are teh differences that monumental between the 05 and 06

^You can do a reflash with 04-05 as well, not really relevant.

As for the pricing, I would say it's reasonable, given the mileage of the car. Though you can always print out edmunds pricing and show the lady and get a better offer.

06 has bluetooth, aux port for a mp3 player, slight engine changes that equate to 10 more horsepower, standard fog lights, memory seats, among other things. 06 was the mid-cycle refresh, so it got some goodies.

The TSX's stick is one of the best out there, which is why I got a manual transmission. The auto transmission is fine, too, but you won't be able to extract as much out of the car. Since you're not a car enthusiast, per se, auto transmission should fit you just right.

The TSX's navigation system is also rated one of the best. You might want to consider picking up a TSX with one. You can control it with your voice, the screen is touch-screen, and it has a couple of nice features (calendar to put reminders on and a calculator). I thought about just using my cell phone or a portable gps player, but neither of them can come close to the 1G navigation system. (I'm not fond of my sister's 2G system with its joystick).

As mentioned above, the reflash is pretty good, even if everything else is entirely stock. It's not necessary, but the changes will be noticeable and will improve the car. I'd recommend it even if you don't like modding your car and want to just keep it stock.

I've never negotiated a price down to Edmunds TMV, but then I've only tried a couple times.

I'm assuming you're looking at KBB private party values.

Auto is OK, especially if you don't like or don't care about a manual tranny. I love manual but this 5AT does alright.

Check it out

Get a mechanic or independent inspector to check it out. If you do not have a mechanic you trust go for the independent inspector like carchex. If you do not know a mechanic I would be hesitant to find one that would possibly omit things so they can get you in for repairs later.

Run an carfax or autocheck. It sounds like you like the car. If all pans out to be ok get it. The price is reasonable.

I hate to say I believe a little old lady drove the car, However, It is in really really good shape for a 6yr old car. The condition speaks volumes.

just ran a carfax. everything looks fine. i dont have a mechanic taht i know well enough to "trust". however there is shop in my neck of the woods that seems to be pretty reputable so im taking the vehicle there tomorrow. blahhh i hate dealing w mechanics due to my lack of automotive knowledge. hope this guy is as nice/trustoworthy as t hey say...

all his reviews are pretty dang good http://maps.google.com/maps/place?rlz=1C1TSND_enUS415US415&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=jetts+gas+and+services+little+rock&fb=1&gl=us&hq=jetts+gas+and+services&hnear=Little+Rock,+AR&cid=8363560131944286195&dtab=2&ei=J-ZuTazFD9C2tgfA_73-Dg&sa=X&oi=local_result&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CBcQqgUwAA

... I got mine for 13,500, so I'm sure You can get it down a little lower, If You can show her green I'm sure she'd drop it, everyone loves cold hard cash. Of course minewas at 74k miles... but it also had TIS 20" wheels, and Nitto NT555 tires... so..

I'd reccommend trying to get it down a little lower, but be reasonable to her as well, shoot for 13,500. I would ask about the floor mats also.

Mechanic

How did it go? If they found anything wrong you could get an estimate to fix and ask for that amount of the price of the car.

dude that price is too high especially for an 05. I'll sell you my 06 with 55k miles for 15k. plus 05 doesnt have all the little goodies that the 06 has.
