sorry, but I have to laugh at you guys that use Mobil 1, especially the ones that list
it as being "full synthetic." it's no where near fully synthetic. I understand you guys
want to use what's cheap, but don't let the marketing fool you, at least understand
what you're putting into your car.

so instead of just pointing and laughing, I'll offer a suggestion. before I used to link a lot
to bobistheoilguy. but I've found that almost nobody actually reads anything there, they
claim it's all too complicated and such. then they just buy what's been marketed to them.
Mobil 1. so if you're looking for a cheap oil, that performs 10x better than Mobil 1, I suggest
you switch to Penzoil Platinum. I think it's the same price point, I think they also sell at
Wal-Mart and such, and I know for a fact it's far superior to Mobil 1.

if you do take some time to read on bobistheoilguy, you will find that Mobil 1 is like the
big joke of the site, and people are looked down upon for using it, it's always the noobs.

if you want a true synthetic; daily driving, not hard, mostly commuting: Amsoil. drive your
car hard and spirited, looking for the best of the best: Redline.

lots of debate on filters. I stick with the OEM ones personally.
Truth of the matter is if your changing your oil often then it really makes not that much of a difference.

I solely used to use Mobile 1 0-40 W in my first ride ( 318is BMW) from 47K miles to 210K miles no mechanical issues and compression was spot on. However changed oil every 5-6K miles.

+1. I use Castrol GTX and Purolator PureOne filters. I just wait until Advance Auto has their sale and buy enough for two changes (I change every 5K). My car is at 133K and Blackstone analyses have been perfect at 100 and 125K miles

I picked up a Purolator PUREone oil filter (excellent ratings and build) and pennzoil platinum 5w30. i almost always run oem filters but havent had the chance to get to dealer.

after about 4500+ miles i am always about 3/4 of a quart low with mobil1. my last change i used conventional pennzoil and its been 5000+ miles and i was about a 1/2 quart. i am about 60% highway driving the past 3-4 months and previously in the first 8 months of the year i was 95% highway doing 4-6k a month.

After reading through a few thread on bobistheoil guy.. ive come to this conclusion.

Syntec/Mobil 1/Pennzoil Premium = Group III highly refined dino oil

Amsoil/Motul = Full Synthetic

I found the thread where "PP" is highly recommended as a top end dino base Synthetic.

I can't find much on Motul.. its about $50 a 5L jug here in Canada right now.. PP $38 M1 $43 Syntec $42.. what are your thoughts on Motul.. and which blend works best in our TSX?

Motul 8100 5W30?

Any chance you are still using this combination? Looking to copy success if no issues--that's the combo I use for the rest of the fleet.
Pennzoil synthetic on sale with MIR becomes $15/gallon + $8 filter = super cheap synthetic oil changes with excellent cold flow for Canadian winters.
