There's a guy online selling some Teins used but they have 40,000 miles on them. no idea on the history of these coils just know one of them was rebuilt. is that an indication that the others will need to be rebuilt? should i just a few extra bucks and get a better quality used set with less use?

What kind of Teins are they? It depends on how they've been driven. At moderate height and daily driving, you'll get a lot of miles out of them (probably around 60k). Honestly though, I would save up and buy a set with way less mileage or buy a brand new set with a warranty.

I would plan for the worst. See what it costs to rebuild them first. If the price to rebuild and price of purchased new is a large enough difference, then buying used might be worth the roll of the dice.

I agree that under normal circumstances around 50-60k is about rebuild time. It's not so much whether they're leaking or not, but the oil in them, like all oils has a lifespan and needs to be changed. Like all spent oils it just stops doing its job properly.

The price for rebuilding depends... You'll have to contact Tein. I saw that someone paid around $500 to rebuild Tein Basics not including shipping. I have no idea how much it'll cost to rebuild SS's though...

Teins are rebuildable? Didn't think they were.

Stan
Yep, though I don't think it's worth it to rebuild the Tein Basics or Basis line. SS's maybe...
