Hey everyone,

I've wanted a TSX for a while now and I found a few that I'm interested in. I'm only 18 years old and this is going to be my first car. I really want a stick shift, but never driven one. It's always a good time to start. lol
I'm also looking for a Premium White Pearl. I really like the color. But I'll settle for a ASM or a different color. Also like the Carbon Gray Pearl.
I'm in Chicago and I found two TSX's.

1. 2006 TSX ASM 6-speed, w/ NAV, 74k miles, $14,000 OBO (IL)
2. 2006 TSX PWP 5-auto, NO NAV, 75k miles, $12,995 OBO (IL)
3. 2007 TSX PWP 6-speed, NO NAV, 68k miles, $13,000 OBO (NY)
But this 07 TSX is all the way in NY.

Can you guys help me out. What I should do. Which one would be a better choice for the price. The first two are located in Chicago. I kinda don't want to travel all the way to NY, but it's pretty much what I'm looking for. :) Should I go with a Automatic or 6-speed. Also wanted to mention if I do get one I plan on getting a reflash or flash-pro. I was thinking of going with a 07 so I can get a flash-pro, but if I get a 06 I guess I would do a reflash. Is there a difference between the two? (reflash & flash-pro) Sorry I'm bringing in two different topics. hehe

Thanks.

If you are into performance - and are already leaning toward getting a stick shift- get one!! The 6 speed will help you get the most out of the engine and making driving a much more involving experience. I have always loved my manuals and resented the the one automatic I once had. Especially when you're dealing with a 4 cylinder without boost etc. you don't want an auto detracting from any sort of sporting character. For instance - the one auto Ive ever had was also the only v6 I've ever owned and the auto STILL ruined the driving experience. On the other hand if you live and drive in the Chicago area an auto would have advantages.

Also I have the reflash on my 06 6speed and love it but after a few more bolt ons would like to have flashpro (06 requires purchase of addition ecu). If you're not going to go crazy with performance mods than the reflash would be sufficient.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for replying. I know I'm going to get a intake. Eventually might get header and exhaust. I'll probably do some exterior body mods; like a front lip and lip spoiler...
For sure I'm gonna lower on Eibach springs or save for coilovers.
I know I won't be getting a supercharger or turbo. hehe
Nothing too crazy.
Is a flash-pro better than a reflash? I'm having trouble understanding what the difference is. I know you can't reflash on a 07, but you can get a flash-pro.

A reflash flashes a new map profile to maximize the benefits of having an intake, header, and exhaust (I/H/E). Those mods are not necessary, and even a stock TSX will have a noticeable improvement.

Flashpro lets you customize your car exactly rather than using a generic profile. You can tune it for a car with a range of mods, from having maybe just an intake to one that has I/H/E and every mod imaginable. Flashpro therefore lets you get more power and maximize all of your mods, but you will need to dyno the car and tune it. If you're not going to go all out and get a ton of mods along with I/H/E, you're better off just getting the reflash.

I got the reflash back when it cost $600 (I did it through a group buy, so I think the amount that I paid was in the low $500s). The current price of $295 is a steal. My car was mostly stock at the time, and on the way home after the reflash, my car felt like a totally different car. I have a manual transmission, though, so I can make better use of the reflash since I stay in the high rpm range.

As for what type of transmission you should get, it is entirely up to you. In hilly places and occasionally in heavy traffic, I wish that I had an automatic. But most of the time, even in heavy traffic, I don't even notice myself shifting since it is second nature to me. If you read the old reviews, you'll find that the TSX's 6MT was acclaimed. I remember when my car was new, alot of people said that the TSX was the best car to learn how to drive stick in. (You might see, though, recent threads about saying how it's hard to drive, but IMHO I believe it's the APP sensor going bad.)

If you can get one with navi, go for it. It was also hailed as one of the best navi systems out there. I still prefer mine over all other navi systems that I have seen, including the one in the 2G TSX. A 6MT and navi combo is even more rare. I remember reading that 10% of TSXs were made with 6MT, and out of those, maybe 10% of them came with navi.

The only thing on the 07/08 TSX that the 06 TSX doesn't have is the tire pressure monitoring system. If you want that system, then go for the 07. But it might make it harder for you in the future if you want certain aftermarket rims.

The navi cost $2,000 as an option. If you want to add it to a non-navi TSX, the cost of all the necessary components comes out to around $3,000. So for about $1,000 more, you could get the first car which has 1k less miles and the only available option installed (the navi).

Also note that the navi can be modified to accept a rear-view camera. I have had one installed in my 06 TSX for the last 4 years. I use it so much that I have a hard time getting myself to turn around and look over my shoulder anymore.

Yeah I think I'm gonna go for the 06 6MT w/ Nav. I don't really care if I have the TPMS. I heard that you can have problems with the system and if it goes bad or something, the cost isn't so cheap to repair.

I've looked at some mods before; and I would do the back-up cam, and some other mods to the nav. I've also seen the mod where the side mirrors move down when you reverse.

What would you say about the price for the 06 6MT w/ Nav and 74k miles. The price is 14k OBO. I looked at the kbb and its about $13,200

Thanks for the information. :)

I was 16 when I bought mine. Saved my whole life but was worried when it came time that I wasn't the best manual driver especially on the CT hills. I stuck with it and got one with a 6 speed manual. Best decision. The tsx is really friendly to drive/shift even on the worst hills from a stop. If I were you, get the manual. Also, if your not in a rush, wait for one to come up closer. Don't under estimate the 100-120,000 miles ones to. TSX's last for ever. You might find a cheaper one closer that fulfills all requirements but has 30-40,000 more miles. Good luck

Yeah, I'm going to keep looking and hopefully I find one with a 6 speed. :)
Thanks.

I was looking for a PWP but the CGP would have been my second choice. Both colors are great! :)

There's some nice aftermarket TPMS setups that are way better than OEM.. They will show you in realtime, your PSI at each tire. I have an 06 and wanted to attempt a retro until I learned I need about 1000+ dollars in parts to make it work.

Why are you so depressed? You might post pictures of your sad automatic TSX? Why did you buy the TSX if it's not what you wanted? Sounds like you were pressured by a salesman somewhere.

Lol I'm not depressed. I would rather have a 6speed, but when i first started looking for a TSX i was looking for a automatic. After my friend got a s2k he started to convince me to get a manual and since then i started wanting a manual car. Other than not having a stick shift I got everything I wanted. I'm happy I got it and I'm loving it so far.
Here are some pics ;)
