With news that the Honda Accord Euro will live on to see another generation, we’re starting to wonder again whether the rebadged Acura TSX will also be redesigned for the U.S. market. Previously, we’d heard that the TSX and TL lineups will be merged into a new TLX model to fight the BMW 3 Series, Audi A4, and others. Now that Honda CEO Takanobu Ito has confirmed to CarAdvice that Honda is working on a redesigned Honda Accord Euro, could the Acura TSX survive to a third generation after all?

Euro spec Honda Accord rear three quarter view 300x187 imageIto was quoted as saying the company was working “really, really hard” on developing the Honda Accord Euro, but stopped short of revealing potential launch timing. As the U.S.-market Acura TSX and Acura TL near the end of their lives, though, we’ll find out soon enough whether the ILX will continue to be offered alongside a TSX and TL, or whether a TLX model will crowd out the TSX.

A next-gen TSX could help Honda justify the engineering costs of a new Accord Euro. In 2012, the TSX contributed 28,865 sales (including 4234 TSX wagons), below the TL’s 33,572-unit performance. In December 2012, the smaller ILX outsold the TL and TSX, while Acura’s SUVs — the RDX and MDX — comprised far more than half of the brand’s overall December sales.

“Honda understands the unique importance that the TSX has had for the Acura lineup and realizes its strength in its segment,” Honda spokesman Chris Martin previously said during a Motor Press Guild event, to Automotive.com.

The fate of the Acura TSX in the U.S. remains uncertain, but confirmation of a new Honda Accord Euro does make us wonder. Before we see any revised TSX, though, expect a refreshed ILX to appear in dealerships.

You are right but Honda sales in Australia are down too and that country was a big market, how are the sales in the other countries ?

Honda sales are down in Australia, but are coming back slowly.

The Accord Euro is its best car in that market, and it sells consistently well.

The top selling medium sized sedan is the Toyota Camry, which is locally built, and sells mostly to government and rental fleets.

Next is the Mazda 6 and Accord Euro, which sells mostly to private buyers.

There are then over 20 other models,incliding VW Jetta and Passat,Hyundai Sonata,Kia Optima,Ford Mondeo,BMW 3 series,Audi A4,Mercedes C class,and Opel Insignia.

if its going to be a 2.4 it just really wont sell in the UK

fuel prices go up every month. people here are mad on little litre cars now.
the CL9 is so cheap to buy now as people dont want them.

the cheapest one on our car sale website is $2842.

im tempted to buy one for spares.

the good thing is here in the UK we get the 2.0 tsx and the 2.2 diesel which help the sales.

so i it depends on what engines it will be available in.

the cl9 is available easily in the 2.4 version but move onto the cu2 and the 2.4 is alot less availability in terms of second hand sales. they are mostly 2.0 and the diesel versions.

so it shows how people are really starting to turn away from bigger litre cars.

Man... that really drives home the differences between countries. In the US, there's not a person out there who thinks 2.4L is a "large displacement" engine.

People over here think a 1.8 is a large engine!

when i tell people i drive a 2.4 they are shocked.

:squint:

an im like :king:

but yea everyone is mad for little 1 litres, 1.2's & 1.4's
and the tsx is way too big to be powered by something that small, i think even the 150bhp 2.0 we get in our cl7 is under powered.

trying to tell people that my car probably does the same mpg as there 1.8, 2.0 just doesnt even sink in they just think bigger engine drinks more juice. which isnt allways the case.

i mean 30 mpg ish for a 2.4 is pretty good, mine probably doesnt acheive that now with mods but i dont have it for mpg.

as for the cu2 2nd gen tsx which is the 8th gen accord here i really dont see many driving around at all.
and all the 1st gen tsx i see are pretty much all 2.2 diesels with the odd cl9 type s like mine kicking about.
so will be surprising to see how well the next generation tsx/accord does here. but then again it all depends on engine size.

This is true, fuel prices have a lot to do with it.

Regardless, a 2.4 liter 4 cylinder is a large motor.
It sure is. Ferrari made the the fiat Dino v6 with 2.4 liters and Infiniti used to make a 2.5 liter v6 but that's considered small displacement in the states.

What octanes are available in the uk? Doesn't te uk offer higher octane like 98-100 at the pump? I also heard uk offers fuel package additive mixtures when you select your fuel octane unlike in the states where it is a set additive mix depending on fuel company

When I say the bigger the better look at the 2g TSX/Euro Accord and the American Accord, those two are way bigger than the 1g TSX/Euro Accord so the 3g TSX/Euro Accord has to be smaller to be able to sell well in Europe, Asia and some other places.
