Hey, thanks in advance to anyone who responds to this, I have read this forum many times for advice on my 2005 TSX but have never had to post until today. My car died today and I was wondering if anyone had any experience on what may be wrong with my car.

I was driving my car with nothing seeming wrong with it and I made a stop. When I went to restart the car, it wouldn't turn over and made the clicking sound like the battery was dead, it seemed odd because my battery is a year or two old at the most. I gave it a few minutes and tried it and it turned over slowly but started, it was driving normally but I looked down and noticed that all of the dash lights were on (seatbelt, battery, abs, etc.) but none of the dials were working (speedometer, tachometer, fuel or temp)...other than that the car was driving fine. I drove to my next stop and when I went to start it again, it turned over, again slowly as if low on battery and started driving, I looked down and the dash was acting the same way. This time I made it about 100 yards and all of a sudden the car started acting like it was in neutral, I was hitting the gas but the engine was only revving. I pulled it off to the side and the engine started sputtering so I turned it off and called a tow truck. Car has 160,000 , miles with no major problems so far. Starter and alternator are both about a year to a year and half old, and like I said the battery may be two years old. This seems like a very strange set of problems and I was wondering if anyone had any advice. The car does burn some oil due to its age so it may have been low on oil, though I added a quart last week (I took a long trip last weekend) but in the past when the oil has gotten low the oil pressure light comes on. Any one have any thoughts on what this may be, I appreciate the help.

I would get a volt meter on it, what your describing sounds like a the alt isn't working properly. It's a cheap place to start, most auto stores check this for free.

Dying battery or alternator. Voltage of battery before starting and after it cranks using a multimeter and report back.

Acting as if its neutral definitely sounds like a dying battery btw. When it does that, put it in neutral and rev the car some, then put it back into drive. If it moves fine again the alt is doing its job.

Thanks guys, you were right. It was the alternator. I was worried it was going to be something much more expensive because of the dashboard issues and the issues dropping into neutral. It's fixed and back on the road. Thanks again.

you might want to get the battery checked out. I had pretty much the same exact symtoms and luckily was under warranty with Acura and the battery was also which turned out to have faulty cells and they just replaced the battery for me. GL and hope your issue is resolved.
