The idea of side molding is good but this particular one just doesn't interest me.

The moldlings are way too thin to give any protection.

The moldings are placed way too low to give any protection.

These moldings highlight/exaggerate the length differences between the front and the rear doors. (The rear moldings are less than half the length of the front).

Sounds right on.

In fact, from the picture, seems like there's no doubt about it. It seems like with the curvature of the side of the car, the moldings just don't protrude beyond the "plane."
