Driving on the interstate Tuesday 2/26/2013, The oil pressure light came on. We pulled over to the nearest exit and checked the oil level. It was just below the top dot on the dip stick. We drove only 3 miles to the nearest Auto parts store and purchased a quart of oil to top it off with. We placed a generic OBDII scanner on the car and a few codes came up without an engine light being on.

Trying to figure out if this is perhaps the timing chain or guide, or if this sounds like I'm going to need an engine. Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would say a stretch chain would do that. I would also replace the oil pump if the oil light came one.

Mileage is right at 180k. Probably never had the timing chain replaced before, although I don't know if it's something required like it used to be a mandatory thing for most vehicles.

Yeah, 180k is a mileage where a chain can stretch. And an oil pump would be a great idea. Are you going to do the work yourself? Or have someone else do it?

Having the work done by my Dad at his shop in Columbus. Always nice to have a mechanic in the family.

Ok we've taken it apart... The timing chain seemed stretched and the chain that goes to the oil pump was snapped and needs replaced. Even though the oil pump still spins fine and appears as though it would work properly we are going to change it along with the timing chain, and guide and the oil pump tensioner, and chain. Everything that needs changed were taking care of. Got the car so $1000 in parts and labor total. Not a bad price still. Still happy and would still buy another one. :Woot:

Even though the oil pump still spins fine and appears as though it would work properly we are going to change it along with the timing chain, and guide and the oil pump tensioner, and chain. Does the TSX have two chains? One the timing chain and one the oil pump chain? Or does the same timing chain run the oil pump?

If the oil pump has its own separate belt, is this a metal chain or a belt?

Have you noticed in the past that your car burns oil?

Does the TSX have two chains? One the timing chain and one the oil pump chain? Or does the same timing chain run the oil pump?

One for the pump and one for the cams.

Oil pump and timing chain have separate chains.

I actually just got this Silver TSX January 27th, of 13' but yeah I know it does burn some oil. Sounds stupid what I'm about to say, lol but isn't that normal?
