Hey guys , I’m new here and just bought a 2008 Acura TSX 6 MT. I am changing all the fluids and while I was changing the manual transmission fluid, I ran into a problem. Once I opened the fill bolt , a lot of fluid came out which was odd since the car was pretty level. Then, I took out the drain bolt and more fluid came out. In total around 3L of fluid came out. I know It’s only supposed to take 2L of fluid , I’m just wondering how this was possible, could the previous person have filled it while the vehicle was titled ? Also will this have caused any damage to the transmission ? Another question as well , does the vehicle need to be completely level while filling or no ? Thank you for any help in advance.

The overfilled fluid may cause gear clash due to the synchros not evacuating the fluid properly.

Also, the vehicle should be level when filling MTF, otherwise you may overfill again.

The risk is much higher risk for damaging an AT from a 1 quart overfill, but not so much for MT. If the transmission shifts ok and feels the same or better than before, there most likely isn't much if any damage. The froth risk increases with load and high speed, so definitely more of an issue on the track. The extra fluid would increase the drag on the spinning gearshafts which will technically slow the input shaft quicker when you press the clutch, and since the wear is typically on the upshift side, caused by the synchro having to slow down the input shaft, the wear problem would be more on downshift side.
