04 around 70k miles. Changed my belt a couple months back, then the tensioner. Started hearing a sort of rattling noise near the belt. Now it's gotten a little louder and happens mostly when in gear waiting at light, or even now when in reverse. It it very faint in neutral but starting to hear it getting worse. Power steering pump issue? Should I go ahead and change it or is there something else I could do that I'm not thinking of before I change the pump?

Is the serpentine belt tensioner within the marked range?

I've found that slightly tighter within the range is better than loose.

Reviving the thread, I have the exact same problem. Replaced the belt (OEM) and tensioner (Gates) about 6 months ago. Turned out in my case the tensioner (Gates) decided to crap out. The noise at first was faint but has gotten a lot worst. The rattling was from inside the tensioner, most likely a defective spring or something.

I have a OEM tensioner on order online, cost twice as much as the Gate one but should had went that route in the first place and save myself the headache. I am very surprise the Gates tensioner failed so early ....

did you have any luck after placing the tensioner? I replaced OEM with Gates but it went bad after just two weeks of driving. I was made to believe that there was something else wrong such as a pulley elsewhere which destroyed the tensioner prematurely. Any advice?
