Hi guys

I drive an 04 6spd, 3rd gear grinds. With that said, during high rev shifts I do pause a bit from 2-3rd gear so as not to grind. However during these shifts i notice a bit of "rattling" noise. I then experimented with other gears and found the same to happen. Unsure where the noise is coming from, possibly just something loose, however wondering if anyone else had this problem?

secondly, my cat is shot. I understand there is a difference between 04-05 and 06+ tsx's. Can I switch out an 06+ catalytic for my current 04 without any problems? If there are problems, what do I need to know? (note: I live in california, it needs to pass smog, and its hard to find and oem replacement cat that ISN'T new from Acura and costs 31239812$)

thanks for reading, lmk if you can help!

SO, guys I have a emissions test coming up. It is required that I go to a STAR smog station. my CEL has been pulling codes like P0420 (Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold) so I assume its my Cat (04 catalytic problems). To save myself the ache of possibly failing the sniffer because of a faulty cat or CEL, I decided to buy a new cat. My question is, will an 06 catalytic bolt up and work on an 04? I understand the 06+ tsxs are more freeflowing and have a little bit more tweaks. In turn I thought, why not bolt up an 06 cat to my 04, maybe it'll give me a little more oomph.

Basically can I buy an 06 OEM spec, aftermarket cat and bolt it up to my 04 w/ no problems in the STAR emissions test?

If not, can I buy an 04 oem spec aftermarket cat and just bolt it on? Any aftermarket brand suggestions?

lastly: why can't I have aftermarket cats that are supposedly OEM, shipped to me here in CA? Does it have something to do with our emissions laws? If it's modeled after OEM, wouldn't it be "ok" to put on? Thanks for any help, I really need to get this done!

The rattling could be from the heat shield that is loose/rusted. Is it only on shifts or when you bury the throttle and then let off?

As far as the 06 cats, that is what I would do if my cat failed. I believe it just bolts on.
