I need to replace the cruise control button in my 2007 TSX. When I press the "CRUISE" button down it enables on the down press and disables as the button is coming back up. I read a little bit about what needed to be done to replace it and decided I could handle the job.

I grabbed a switch assembly like this (switch) from ebay thinking that I would just swap in the part I needed but things aren't going very well.

I started the repair process by unscrewing the two screws on the back of the steering wheel that keep the switch assembly in place. My plan was to disconnect the wiring harness and swap in the new switch assembly.

What I've found is that this harness doesn't seem to want to disconnect. I've looked at schematics (that may not actually be for the 07 TSX) that showed the harness and switch assembly disconnected from each other which leads me to believe that I should be able to separate them but I can't.

Am I right in saying that the wires are soldered right to the PCB and what looks like a plastic connector is actually something designed to protect the wires? If not, what is the trick to disconnecting this harness from the PCB?

Here's a pic of the replacement part I bought and the connector I'm having trouble with:

Any help you can give is very much appreciated. Fingers crossed!

Thanks,

MJ

I believe that to be a plug and removable. I had the exact same on my '04 and when messing with it the button got stuck down broken and now I just have always on cruise(cancel/resume/set work fine).
Manual says you remove connector- Attached image

This is exactly what I thought but I tried detaching it with my hands, then pliers and tried again to pry it off with a screwdriver and all I succeeded in doing was breaking one of the wires where it was attached to the board (and cracking parts of the plastic in the connector).

I'm confused. I may just glue the button down on the switch that's already installed but I figured I would try to do it the "right" way first.

Has anyone actually replaced just the cruise control switch assembly (requiring you to detach the wiring harness)? Is there a trick to it?

Thanks,

MJ

Did you ever figure it out? I am just starting this same process and looks like I need to disconnect the whole wheel to install the parts.
