Some ppl say that max torque at lower rpm is faster. Others say that more rpm is faster even if max torque is reached at a higher rpm.

But isn't it faster to reach max toruque at lower rpm even if the max rpm is lower than the other car?

Who's correct?

ok well max torwue at low rpm's will get yu moving, but das all torque is for, at high rpms yu will have max torque and power, cuz yu all kno dat after the max it drops rite away, so max torque and horses should be at the peak of the rpms.....but gettin up to the max torque/horsepower there is also a lot of it, so yeah it's alot better then havin the max at mid range rpm's...

It all depends on GEARING.

For any given vehicle speed, maximum acceleration is achieved @/as close as possible to PEAK ENGINE HORSEPOWER.

All other things being equal (including HP, weight, etc), the vehicle making more torque will tend to be slightly quicker, due SOLELY to the limitations imposed by the limited # of gears in a "regular" transmission.

RX8 is faster than 330Ci if u compare 6 speed. vs. 6 spd. Nothing beats rotary and amazing HP/L ratio.

I question whether or not the 330 ci 6 speed is slower than the RX8, particularly under REAL WORLD conditions:

330ix: (all wheel drive version of the 330i and therefore HEAVIER):

0 -60: 6.2
1/4 mile: 14.7 @ 96 MPH

That's comparable to the RX8, but the BMW's power is more readily available, since it makes a LOT more TORQUE:

And who cares about HP/L on the STREET, where there is NO SANCTIONING BODY limiting engine size?

In terms of fuel consumption/liter, rotataries SUCK - literally! The Z06 Corvette gets MUCH BETTER fuel economy than the RX8, despite the fact that it makes 155 HP MORE and mountains more of torque!

HP/pound of engine weight is more meaningful, since engine WEIGHT more adveresly impacts vehicle dynamics (as opposed to engine displacement).

I've experience both.
i drive an a4 (auto), most of the torque is around 3-4k rpm and redline is 6.5. as soon as it passes 5. feels like all the power is gone.
my friend has a type-r, very fun car to drive.
anyways, id just a jump on him at first, but as the drive goes longer, he catches up.
the a4 has a hard pull, but the type-r feels much faster.
