Hi. I am new to the forum and am a first time Acura owner.

Bought my 04 TSX used from the dealer in 2010 with 60k.

Now at 91k, transmission all of sudden wouldn't shift at all the other night. It would just continually rev as if it were in neutral.Turned the car off and on to get the car a few miles down the road before the 'D' drive light started flashing.

Car runs fine when the car is cold but once it warms up it won't shift right. Is this the transmission? I hope not as the car is out of warranty -__-

I have a tranny shop looking at it now but they will always say transmission to get $$$. When I mentioned the transmission filter as a cause, he told me that the filter is internal and even that were the issue, the tranny would have to come out.

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance

Your power train warrantee should be 10 years/100,000 miles so you should call your dealer and speak to a service advisor.

When i bought my car back.in 08, it was cpo with 40k on it. At 45k and 64k i had problems with my trans too. My powertrain coverage was 7years100k, whichever came first from the date of purchase. So that's something you do wanna look into because they don't always tell you if you don't ask.

I dont think the filter is internal, there is an inline transmission filter by the air intake.

Anyone confirm there is a second filter ?

Even if I bought the car used from the dealership? I thought when you buy the car it is as is, no warranty.
If it said that when you bought the car then yes, but standard is what I stated earlier now if either the year or mileage isn't up then acuramis suppose to honor it. Just give your local dealer a call and speak to a service advisor for better information how it works. When I bought my 350Z it was used but still under factory warrantee since it was under the 3yr/36,000 miles.

Also consider that power train is only engine and transmission so if the problem is a component for the transmission (master cylinder etc) it is not covered.

You only get what is left remaining on the factory warranty and they extend the factory warranty if your car is a CPO. I'm going to assume yours is not since most owners who are buying a CPO would know it is one.

Yours definitely sounds like transmission issues which if you still had warranty it would be covered under drivetrain. I just had my car back from the dealer. They replaced the entire transmission under warranty since 06+ have drivetrain warranties for 6 yr/70k miles. Had it been done out of pocket, Acura would have charged $3,700.

Transmission-2!

Okay, so I have had the new transmission for about two weeks. Drove it around 800 miles (literally break-in highway mileage, 60 mph, no fast acceleration, goin' easy)

Now, the car is doing the same shifting problems that it was doing when I brougth the car in for a new transmission.

Any thoughts?

I brought it back to the transmission shop to get fixed since I have a warranty.

Is this an electrical problem?

i'm not a specialist when it comes to transmission but if you're having the same problems again, there are two things. First it is possible that it may be something else causing the problem or it may be the same problem happening again. now if it is the same problem and it does happen a 3rd time then this is where the Lemon Law would have to take effect.
