Hey folks....I just picked up my TSX last week in crappy cold Wisconsin. By the time I got home my car was filthy and I decided that I would get a 'touchless car wash'. I went to the local Shell station on highway 20 and I-94 (for those in the area) and drove in........First time through the car gets sprayed with soap and then all of the sudden the dryers come on without the car being washed off....I couldn't even see with all the soap on the windows.....So I pull around and talked to the manager/owner who gave me another wash code.

The second time around just the back of the car gets sprayed with soap and water but the rest of the car has soap freezing to it. Again I pull around and talk to the manager and he says "okay I will manually work the washer arm for you." By then I was already getting irritated but couldn't just leave and come back later b/c of all the soap and dirt still on the car. :tard:

So I enter the wash and I see him manually working the switches. Soap is sprayed and all seems well and then I hear a loud 'THUNK' on the passenger side of the car. Seems that the electronic eye malfunctioned and the vertical wash arm crashed into the car. Worst yet it get stuck on the side view mirror. I roll the window down and yell at the guy to stop the machine. He says "no worries the arm is padded" I say "I dont give a F*&^% it should not hit the car." Anyhow he tries to dislodge the arm and then I hear a 'SCRRECCH' across the door.

Well folks, put yourself in my shoes.....Brand new $30,000 car....so far  And this is supposed to be a touchless wash...seems more like or a 'touchful' carwash.

So long story longer......I get out.....fuming mad....I look at the damage, dent on door, 5" long scratch down to metal, dented chrome molding and possible damage to mirror. He says, "yeah we've been having problems with this wash today."..... So, anyway, I didn't lose my cool (too much) but lets just say we had a short 'chat' and I had a check for $1000 bucks the next day from his insurance co and the car was fixed the day after by a honda autobody shop. In case your ever in the Kenosha Area, stay away from that Shell station please.

All is good now :flower: It's ridiculous how torn up we get over these cars, no?

I am surprized that it took less than a month.. I have seen cars go in with less damage than that and told to bring it back after they made an appointment..

Yeah, I drove over to the Honda dealership (about a mile away) and I got an immediate estimate for 900 bucks. I had already talked to the gas station's insurance co and they said "take it where you want to, if its less than 1000 we will probably not send an estimator to look at it."

After the estimate, the shop said they could do it the next day. No problem. I guess I was lucky. And they did a real nice job :jump:

Wow that car wash really sucked. I've had alot of experiences with those touchless car washes and having water/soap freeze in cold weather. Amazing quick fix though!

I never use those things. They suck ass every time, guaranteed. They either leave a film on your car, completely miss areas like the rocker panels, or they fail to properly dry they car. Either way it’s not worth the 5 bucks or whatever you paid.

If I don’t do it my self (and I usually do because I do a better job then ANYONE) Ill take it to a place that uses the same type of car wash the dealers and factories use. After it goes through the "touch" wash it’s dried off by 5 or 6 Mexican guys. And they do a damn good job every time guaranteed. This is after they vacuum and detail the interior of course. Not bad for 9.99 + whatever tip I leave that day.

I also woulda demanded a free gas card... hint hint.

I agree, Joe. Those touchless washes never do a good job. You can always see the dirt & grime after the water dries. The few times I went with the brush washes & manual drying I was really impressed.

You guys have to understand that there are not many choices here where I live (Soft brushes or touchless).

Joe, I noticed you live in CA where it is probably a bit warmer and you can wash it yourself most of the year. I can wash my car and usually do, four months out of the year. But the winters here are tough on your car and so the touchless variety just gets most of the salt and grime off until you can properly wash it.

Anyways, we're moving to Orlando Florida in two months! So f#$#ing forget this frozen tundra....The house we're building has a nice long driveway with a spigot right off the garage which = year round carwashing!

P.S. The guy didn't offer any free carwashes or gas.....Probably a good idea since I didn't seem like I was in the mood at the time. I just wanted the car fixed like yesterday:surprised

My wife takes the cars in once in a while and has a touchless wash done, and then they wipe the cars, so it is not all that bad...

It was the sound........the sound of the "SCRRREEEECCCHHHHH" that chilled me to the bone. I had one of those butterflies in the stomach feelings. And I couldn't get out of the carwash to see the damage cause it was still running! Oh the humanity :bawling:

But all is well now :)
