As announced earlier this year, Honda is coming close to ending sales and production of the Civic Type R. To celebrate the end of the ‘Red H’ badge, Honda is bringing together fans of its high performance Type R cars at a special event at Silverstone this month on Aug 22.

“The celebration at Silverstone marks the news that UK sales of the current Civic Type R are drawing to a close,” Honda said in a statement. “Production of the hot hatch for the UK market will end in October 2010, with sales ending during December, due to forthcoming Euro V emissions regulations.”

Honda has sold over 12,000 of this generation of Civic Type R in the UK since its introduction in January 2007. The Japanese automaker said that production of the 3-door Civic Type R will continue at Honda’s factory in Swindon, to supply other markets further afield, such as Australia and South Africa.

This has been the way of things recently. The next Evo they are saying electric motivation, moving away from internal combustion.

Eventually gasoline engines will become like having a steam engine, people will look back and just be astonished that we used something like this motivation.

Electric cars have been attempted since the early 20th century, you should read up on it, Ford and Edison worked on electric cars around 1903 onwards. It is just big oil has kept them down to this point, but that cannot continue to be the case. Especially with India and China becoming the top energy users, America will have to look elsewhere for energy.

The only thing in this world that is constant is change.

Curious though... why hasn't Honda done a head redesign to incorporate direct injection as I am sure this would skirt around the emissions, or at least allow them to meet them... Maybe Honda really is getting ready to pull the plug on any only ICE engines, and go all hybrid, hydrogen, or battery only.
