hey all, my 05 has suffered some trauma. my wife hit a curb and from what i can tell, probably at a speed of at least 25 mph. both passenger tires are flat, front bumper lip is ruined and, most important, when trying to start the car, it makes a horrible grinding sound.

the car will start, and i can move the gear selector, but it will not actually shift into gear or neutral, so i am dreading them having to drag it on and off the tow truck.

anyone have ideas on what is wrong with the transmission? is there anything i can try to at least get it into neutral so it doesnt have to be drug around?

only has 114k and recently had a valve retiming so this car is no where near ready for the junk yard.

Agreed, it has undergone trauma. It's serious but to think that guessing what is wrong without having a look under the hood by an expert is asking a lot. You should take it to an expert that can take a much deeper look and assess the damage so that you can get a better understanding of how much was damaged.

I once saw a show where a fellow had a very long and hard fall. He asked his neighbor (not a doctor) what he thought. He told him to sleep it off. It didn't end well.

The grinding could be the starter if it's mount point got broken or bent.

Tranny issues are probably due to shift linkages out of their normal position, if the motor is broken off of a motor mount that could cause the linkages not to be aligned right.

You need to jack the car up and see what the frame looks like, if the main frame is bent then the car is probably not worth saving. If it's just the subframe, maybe you can get a used one.

If it's broken motor mounts and/or suspension parts you might be able to save it. I had a similar deal with a porsche once, just needed some front suspension work.

You can probably get it into neutral by disconnecting the shift linkages on top of the tranny and then. Does the clutch feel normal?
