XM Radio

Hi everyone, I am new to the forum...well have been a reader for about 3 months...just now thought I would put a post up.

I have been very interested in the TSX since the first of the year, but have no dire need for a car urgently. I love the fact that I have maybe seen a total of 5 different TSXs in my town of 275,000 people in the past year. The car is popular, but on the verge of being rare....That's great! Not like the 250,000 Accords I see in the above mentioned population.

I haven't quite decided which tranny or nav. or no nav., but there is one thing that I would love to have that is not offered from the factory or as a dealer add-on...XM Radio. I was wondering how hard it is to get an XM setup that is actually hard-wired to the stereo system with digital quality output? Does anyone have any experience with this? Also - we are about 3 months away from the model year change...what are the odds they will add XM as standard equip. for the 2005 model year, much like the Accord/TL this year?

I think it is almost guaranteed that the TSX in 2005 will have XM straight from the factory. The 2004 Accord and the 2004 TL already have it. But these two cars were released in September 2003 while the 2004 TSX was released before them in April 2003.

I am anxiously waiting for the 2005 TSX for this reason. And with Navigation, it will be even sweeter as the XM display works with the huge NAV screen! THe song, artist, and album information are displayed on the navigation screen instead of some small display where you can't see all the info at one time.
XM w/nav. good idea

I am also waiting for the '05 to see if it has XM. Up until your comment about it being tied in with the Nav. screen I was pretty much uninterested in the navigation option, but that makes it more enticing. :grinno:

To me, I could pay less than half the price for a Garmin Nav. that I can take with me in any car. For instance, if I am flying somewhere on business, I can use it in the rental car in a unfamiliar city. Whereas when I am in my own car, I pretty much know how to get to work or my favorite restaurants, etc. So the more benefit I get from that large screen, the better I feel about dropping $2k.

Any word on when the '05 will start showing up at dealerships?

Yeah, it'll probably be like the 04 TL's navi with XM. To get an idea, just go and test drive a TL with navi and have the salesperson show you the XM feature. It's really sweet!!
(if you haven't allready done so)
Maybe an indication?

Here is an article I found that poses possibilities...

Honda to Double Models Sold With XM Radios

American Honda believes it will double the number of models sold with XM radios as standard equipment for the 2005 model year — from about 200,000 autos in 2004 to 400,000 vehicles in 2005. Honda’s XM-equipped models will be sold with a three-month free trial subscription.

XM President/CEO Hugh Panero said, “Throughout the 2004 model year, Honda has been increasing the sale of XM-equipped vehicles faster than expected.”

Honda plans to offer XM in a total of seven 2005 Acura and Honda autos. The automaker plans to reveal specifics later this year.

For the 2004 model year, XM is standard on the Acura RL, Acura TL and some Honda Accord models. XM is a dealer option on the 2004 Honda Pilot, Honda Odyssey, Honda S2000 and Acura TSX.

I know the feeling...that was part of my reason for not getting the navi. But if I had the money to spend, I'd get it no doubt. Though if you're getting XM with the car, it is really nice to see what you're listening to. As I mentioned in the above post, go and check out the new TL with/without navi and XM to see how/what is displayed. Just to get an idea now. Otherwise you can wait till the new TSX comes out and check it out then. Unfortunately I don't know the timeframe of when the new TSX comes out.

How could someone who has a 2004 TSX with Navi, upgrade to the XM model? Do you think you'd have to pay another $2000 for a new navi just for the XM? I mean, I'd like to have XM, but I'm not really willing to give up the "not an ashtray" & power outlet for it, and I really like the way that it is integrated into the TL's screen. Any thoughts?

Hello, and welcome Dangermouse :wavey:
I asked my dealer this same question, as I really like that feature on the TL. They said you would have to replace the whole computer on the car, and with that said, unfortunately their answer was that it could not be done :(
lol... I used to watch Danger Mouse... you're taking me back.

I'd be willing to bet my left kidney that XM will be on the 05 TSX, but you'd have to put up something good in return - I don't need another kidney.
