I bought a 2008 Acura TSX about a month ago and went for my first oil change this weekend.
I bought Mobil 1 5W 30 High Mileage Full Synthetic Motor Oil before going to my mechanic. The reason I bought this oil is because the sticker on the windshield showed Mobil 5W 30 Fully synthetic oil...(it did not say highmileage or extended performance, but high mileage was the only one available at walmart and it made sense), not sure this is an issue.
So I took the oil to my mechanic, and about 4 mechanics in the shop were on my case saying that I should use 10W 30 since it's a high mileage car. This are experienced mechanics with at least 20 years experience. They were all giving me anecdotal evidence to prove their case. I listened to them but at the end told them to put the oil I had bought...mainly thanks to reading various forums, mainly this one.
My question is do any of you get such resistance by mechanics for them to put 5W 30? I had not bought a filter and they used the one in shop, said it was not and issue.
Any thoughts?
