I have a Skunk2 70mm megapower exhaust I have had for probably almost 3 years now and it's been great, but I just have noticed from clips of my car at the track and also driving it, it just ain't sounding as good as I remember. Seems to sound very air'ed out like when you let off it buzz's, and it rattles at idle. The tone is still good. Just it seems to sound a little hollow these days. Is this typicaly of an exhaust like this to just kinda lose it's "muffling?". Not sure how else to describe it lol I have been wanting to cut out the skunk2 cannons in the back and either put in a straight pipe or maybe some HKS mufflers of the same style. Also I have a Little bo 4-1 race header and no cat, but there is a resonator where the cat should be. Not sure if that Air sound I hear is just the no cat life. I have heard a few people say that is how cars sound with no cat. Anyone with a skunk2 exhaust please let me know what your experience has been :D

cheaper mufflers like the Skunk2 use steel wool/fiberglass to muffle the sound, and it breaks down over time reducing the sound deadening. It's normal for them to get louder over time. If you want something to replace them that's a bit less noisy i've been really impressed with the laminar flow mufflers from flowmaster. I'm collecting exhaust components now, and plan on doing this in a single 3". Depending how it sounds i might add a resonator and another in line muffler. Currently running the sergebo header and resonated test pipe on the OEM exhaust. It actually sounds awesome! Screams at WOT but still pretty quiet in normal driving, no drone.

Tbh I like it loud as shit lol. I am not so bothered by how loud it gets I am more so bothered by the tone it gives off or the buzzing, rattling, or hising. That is what is getting to me. I like the free flowing exhaust cause it makes the car more of an experience to drive and also pops and bangs alot and I looove that. I am thinking of doing something like just getting rid of the rear mufflers and putting straight pipes. I removed my exhaust once to see if It was too loud without the mufflers and tbh it was HORRIBLE it sounds amazing and like a race car like I want, but it droned like a bitch. I was kinda guessing tho that the reason it droned so bad was cause the exit was under the car. So I think the sound was getting trapped under the car and that was what made it so bad. If it exits out the back behind the car maybe it would not be so bad. That is only my theory tho, I could be totally wrong. so realistically I probably should just cut off the skunk2 mufflers and get something else. I don't wanna make it quieter just less hollow sound. The now opened out skunk2 mufflers sound hollow as hell, I think that is what is giving me that sound I don't want.

I already know alot of people think I am crazy to have a straight piped car, but I actually love the way Honda's sound NA with no obstructions, they SCREAM.

I am trying to find a balance tho, I don't wanna make it too miserable for daily driving, but I love my car to be unique and really be my own.

I will look into those flow masters tho, maybe they make something I am looking for ;)

I just installed mine today and I absolutely love how deep the skunk2 sounds, it's way louder than expected though, and wonder what I can do to prevent it from getting louder or even muffle it a bit more without changing anything, I mean I spent a lot of money on this. I don't want to keep the silencers in since I don't like how it sounds with them. I still have to get used to it I'm just afraid of it getting too loud, especially in the DMV area. Ive read people say that once they "break-in" they get quieter but I also hear people say they get louder, so which is it.
