My drive down from Buffalo, NY to Nyc about 400 something miles, and up there as i predicted snow and rain, salt trucks = lots of rock chips. So i taped up the car, it was kind of ridiculous, but i rather not see any more gashes in my hood.

Swapped to stock tires and kept the lowered height.

So i met up with mephisrheins, and i swapped my tires earlier. Just took some pictures.

to my my thxgiving weekend suck is that today someone hit my car...

I was parking at the barnes and noble and this suv was crooked in the spot i wanted to park. So i decided to pick another spot and then saw the guy was going to move his car and leave the spot.

As i fix myself in the parking spot this guy in a jag wants to park next to me, so i quickly move a bit to the left to give him more room to pull in, and the moron waited for me to get out and leave. I waited and then saw him hit my car as he pulled in...

Like really took off the paint of my car with his ugly metal jaguar bumper. I check the scratch it was about 6 inches long 2 of them.

He opens his window and says to me i only taped it, and i was furious, that he even denies it. I take out my flashlight and show him the scratch.

He says : what do you want to do about it? call insurance fine? want me give you money for it? its nothing there.

I show him his bumper and you see two lines of blue paint all over, he waits there like hes in a rush and asks me again do i want money for it.

I was so angry that if i didn't say forget it and leave, i would have started something and let my anger get to me. So i move my car to the other side of this packed parking lot, and walk back.

keyed his trunk with a house key of mine and called it a day.

Honestly if i bothered calling insurance, and the cops it take forever, its the day before thanksgiving and this &**&( had to hit my car. Really didn't want to call the cops or anything to ruin anyone early night with the family.

sigh...

should i even bother reporting it? I don't plan on it but future reference should i have done something else?

Although that is a very frustarting situation. You really should have reported the incident to the cops if he was unwilling to cooperate. Purposely keying his car won't fix any of your problems. He was a jackass, but you have proof on both sides that he had caused damage to your car. You could have gotten him or his insurance to pay for it.

But since that's in the past.... I would personally take it to a body shop and have it repaired. Don't replace anything, goto a different shop if they say thats the only option. You might be able to buff most of the scratches and maybe push out a bit of the ding yourself.

O yeah, did you get all that damage even after taping up your front? Thats some serious road damage :(

Mugen, and have him pay for it if you got his info

I don't know how it is in the USA, and particularly in New York state, however in Ontario, Canada, parking lots are private property, and claims are 'no fault' or 50/50 - meaning, each party covers the repair of his/her own vehicle. Nobody is really at fault, given there are no other circumstances involved, such as impaired driving, etc.

The individual that hit your car is surely a jack ass, but you turned out the be the bigger jack ass for retaliating and keying his car. Because you did this, in my opinion, you have no right to get the police involved, as instead of taking the smart route to deal with the matter at hand, you decided to seek revenge upon him by keying his car. It's quite funny that you are considering getting the police involved, because what makes you think he won't pin the fact that you keyed his car on you? Sure, you might say "He can try to prove it.", but the same will apply for you - prove that he in fact hit your car.

Sure he did deny it, but he was offering you money to settle the claim at the scene - which is admittance of his screw up in one way or another. If he was in fact offering you some change to get the blemish fixed, why didn't you take it? In such situations you can't think with a hot head, as you did, and seek revenge. Clear up your mind which will help you greatly in dealing with such a situation.

Best of luck to you in getting that fixed.

yeah, you didnt mention the keying thing to me earlier, that wasnt a smart move man...

But yeah things like that happen, the scratches on my bumper up above are from someone hitting me in a parking lot and then just driving away... a lot of people dont care about cars, and understand why it matters to you so much that yours now has a scratch, just be glad its not too big, and either deal with it, or fix it at the end of the winter... personally from living in lancaster city where there is only Street Parking, I've gotten used to the fact that I have to repaint my bumpers every year...it sucks, but its what happens if you wanna keep your car in good shape.

at the rate he was talking to me i was just fed up with the day, it sounded like he really did not care, and took me as overreacting over a scratch.

I shouldn't have keyed his car, but i didn't really know in general terms what to do. OBviously insurance wouldn't do much for a scratch like that and he probably knew it.

Also if i called the cops, i felt like i'd be wasting someones time.

He got the best of me...

next time ill deal with it a better way, but thanks for your input everyone, the days already over just hope everyone has a nice thanksgiving.

.

If it makes you feel any better, cops in my work and resident area don't have anything better to do. You don't know how many times I see one person pulled over and 3-4 cop cars there. And you know its just a speeding ticket or something small.

Your life may not be in danger but police are paid to help you. Even smaller incidences like yours.

Jeff, sorry to hear your "accident", you shouldn't key him like everyone said, but I doubt he cares about his car. If I were you I will find a shopping cart to ramp on his car, what can he do about that?

Funny lol, pictures are dark, but no one noticed that slight change to my front end lol

Honestly it was the night before thanksgiving and he was pissing me off i felt like he was saying that stuff just to brush me off.

I seriously did not want to make things worse, so i sucked it up and then walked into the store.

only bad thing i regret is let myself to go back to the car and key it since it was in front of me.

=\ Well anyway hope you guys are all having some nice dinner =)

i would of done the samething key and walk away waste of time going through insurance and probably his insurance wouldnt even cover it..

|crazyazn| you shouldn’t have vandalized the other parties vehicle as you did, I am sure you guys could have reached a collective agreement together. I know what you mean though; I was with my mom when for no good reason her, at the time brand new 2004 MDX was keyed across both doors, boy was she living. We filed a police report and never found out who did it, we had it professionally touched up and with a couple coats of wax it was hardly even visible, NHBP blends well, anyway I am getting off point here.

MemphisRheins, I like the yellow film over the OEM fogs. I have to order me a set I keep procrastinating on it. I have yet to put my vehicle in ‘winter more’ I need to remove my front lip, way too low for winter driving, haha.
