I know the manual says to use premium gas, but the engine is basically almost the same as accord's and its i4 with only 200hp. Do we really need to use premium gas? or do you guys just use regular? Thanks

My 06 is completely stock, I do mostly highway driving on flat roads. I do not race or tow so for me regular gas works. For the 1st 2 months I used premium than switched to regular. My car now has 110,000+problem free miles. I have all the service done by acura/honda dealers and get complimented on how well my car is maintained.

Premium... always.... think about it it only comes out about 8 bucks more expensive on a fill up.. depending where you at

my last car was a 2004 I4 accord...and our engine is similar appearance wise but not the same as the K24a4...

we have a higher compression ratio, bigger intake, better internals, bigger header, more aggressive cams, alot better CAT and exhaust, we are pushing 45 more horsepower, 20ft/lb more torque, and our cars were engineered and tuned to run off of 91 octane gasoline.....remember this is a luxury/sports sedan, not a family sedan like the accord is

using anything lower than 91 is kind of dumb in my opinion, if your doctor said to only feed your children A+ vitamins would you feed them C- vitamins cause you felt like being cheap ?

in the end your only screwing yourself using bad gas, performance goes down, MPG goes down, injectors will clog faster, and straight up your cars not engineered for shitty gas

The TSX motor achieves 200hp because it has a higher compression ratio, compared to the Accord's 160-70hp, which is why premium is the recommended octane for us. Though, regular octane will always seem "ok" in the TSX because the ECU will compensate.

But, I always use premium.

there is a difference between required and recommended. when it is recommended then you can put in a lower grade gasoline and accept the loss in MPG and performance (which is usually stated by experts to be about 0.5 seconds in the 0-60). but if it is required, then it is required. cars have knock sensors that will take readings and tune the engine to adjust to the gas that is in the car, and thus prevent it from pinging or knocking... but still, you should never put in a gasoline that will cause your car to knock.

at a few bucks a tank, no sense in cheaping out... my tank says premium only...

Premium only.

It actually makes me tired that people always want to test things with their cheapness. Can u put regular in? Thanks to smart ECU, u can. Is it recommended? No. Why? Well, I lost 30-40 miles per tank. At the pump, the difference is usually no more than $3.

I have not seen dynos that would show how much TSX loses on performance side, but early models of 350Z lost 16HP and roughly as much torque by switching to regular gas.

Bottom line: fill up with regular and you lose both performance and long run on a single tank and u dont save shit.

Premium only. And only from Chevron or QT if possible.

My dad on the other hand puts 87 or 89 in his 08 TL-S. :rotz: Different engine i know but still.

It's especially important to use Premium (91 octane or higher) with the Hondata reflash.

The reflash advances the ignition timing so if regular gas is used, the knock sensors/ECU would really pull back the timing.
