The VSS signal is a wire that outputs a square wave with a frequency proportional to the speed the vehicle is moving at. It basically allows another device to monitor the speed at which the vehicle is moving. This monitoring may occasionally be required for certain aftermarket Navigational units, or other devices.
The VSS wire is only present in the vehicles with OEM Navi systems. It's a Blue/White wire located at the white connector E, pin #26 at the ECM(Electronic Control Module). Those vehicles that do not have the OEM Navi, do not have the wire present, but the pin output is present in the ECM. So in order to get the signal, a wire has to be inserted into the white plug (pin #E26) as shown on the below picture. Looking at the ECM from the passenger side foot well, the harness needed to plug into is on the far right of the ECM.
